Café Ba!

Post by bellybabe » 08 May 2005, 18:33

A new local organisation, the Portobello Parenting Network, to be known as Café Ba!, has been set up and is being launched tomorrow, at the beginning of Breastfeeding Awareness Week. Their constitution has the following Mission Statement and Objective:
MISSION STATEMENT
To offer the facility of a friendly, relaxed and welcoming environment to expectant parents, current parents and their children and those who support the family.

OBJECTIVE
 Acknowledge the importance of the wellbeing of the family unit.
 To encourage, support and maintain breast feeding while using evidence-based research.
 To provide a resource of educational and practical needs for parents.
 be aware of green and ethical issues surrounding childcare ie real nappies.
They have this to say about breastfeeding support:
Breastfeeding is one of the most influential contributors to infant health. It provides a range of benefits for an infant’s growth, immunity and development. Social support has been shown to increase successful breastfeeding. Group support is an effective approach where mothers can breastfeed in an
environment where it is valued and encouraged.
The official launch is tomorrow at 1.30pm at St Philip's Church. Then after, it will run on Mondays 1-4pm - 1-3pm is open to everyone for tea/coffee/juice and muffins, fruit and biscuits and 3-4pm is breastfeeding support for mums.

For further information contact Café Ba!, 0131 657 8924, or email HV.s70639@lothian.scot.nhs. (I think I've copied that correctly... :? )
