PC puzzle game, set in Portobello

Post by Dadaist » 18 Apr 2005, 19:45

I have written a small text adventure set in Portobello. (That's one of those old games where you had to type "GO NORTH" and "OPEN DOOR" etc etc)

It will run on any PC, but there are a few steps to getting it working - you first have to download the environment (the program which makes it run)

just download and install this file :

http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/~jcw/ADRIFT40r.zip

Once you have the runner installed, download my game at :

http://www.edinburgh-east-ssp.org/adrift/game.zip

Unzip my file ("A Day At The Seaside.taf") and load it from the runner...

There are hundreds of other (much better!) text adventures you can play in this runner - just have a look round the adrift site. But let me know what you think (or if you get stuck ...)

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Neo-Dadaist for putting up with her daddy taking all the photographs for the game when he took her out for her "walk" on Saturday, and Beach Babe for being the chief play-tester.

You can read about the whole ADRIFT environment here - it's really easy to build your own game - it's no more complicated than using a spreadsheet or database :

Anyone played Dadaist's game yet? As part of a minority group i.e. a Mac user, I've been discriminated against once more

No, you haven't. You simply need to download the mac runner instead (my game is platform independent) - which is called "scare" :

I liked it. But my shoes and socks did want to get wet - it was my feet that didn't. And I had fun in the photo booth...

Know someone who used to work at the uni in that mysterious "tardis" dept... Met some of the others at a very bizarre party once. An ubergeekfest (still can't do umlauts  )

They are called timelords. But you get my respect for having even heard of the tardis project. (doffs cap)

Not in my book...

Very odd party...but those timelords make darned good cocktails.

Oddest party I ever went to was my local anti poll tax group's Mexican Subbuteo night.

Hmm. Try this one and tell me how you get on. If you're still stuck, can you tell me what the error code is?

OK I'm stuck. I've got me bucket and spade and a pen and a form..but don't know what I'm meant to do now.
I tried eating the form when all else failed but you didn't let me :D
I can't talk to anyone either ..you keep accusing me of 'rabbling' :?
I ended up late yesterday lunch-time collecting my son from school because I was playing and had to miss out on seeing Emily. I spotted Beach Babe walking home with the pushchair but didn't have time to say Hello :( Please apologise for me.
P.S.
There's also a distinct lack of paninis in the game so far.....

I thought it was you Marya but wasn't completely sure. You probably didn't want to speak to us anyway as I have a nasty cold and Emily was sound asleep so wouldn't have given you a lovely toothy smile

lol'ing at you trying to eat the form. Will leave it to Dada to give you more clues

I'm quite worried though Marya - did you have to go the best part of three hours before you found somewhere to spend your penny

You'll be glad to know that I didn't keep my legs crossed quite that long Beach Babe  I couldn't save my progress (well, it saved it in what looked like cryllic!) so anytime I nipped onto the computer I had to play from the start :D
Em...before I commit my answer what is maximum score?
