Portobello Live Aid weekend

I had a message today from Terry Magill, one of the owners of the Dalriada Hotel. He has very ambitious and laudable plans to stage a weekend of musical celebration to mark the 20th anniversary of Live Aid on 16/17 July.

He is offering his own services to help to co-ordinate events and the Dalriada as a venue but plans this as a Portobello-wide event, involving the whole community. In the absence of Golden Years, this could be the summer event of 2005 in Portobello.

To make it happen, this project will need a huge number of local volunteers. If you would like to be involved in any way please let me know and I will pass on your details, or pop in to the Dalriada and make yourself known.

A preliminary meeting has been set for Thursday 7 April at 7pm in the Dalriada, to which all interested parties are invited.

I confess that was my first impression too. However, I am only prÃƒÂ©cising a very long and detailed document and I am in no doubt that Mr Magill is deadly serious in his intent. On reflection, perhaps he might have chosen a better day to announce it.
