Some time ago I was approached by a group of community activists from Musselburgh. Inspired by the success of the Portobello Online website, they hoped to set up something similar. Talks surrounding this have been continuing for some time and led to the intriguing possibility of combining our online communities.
This makes sense for a number of reasons. Like ourselves, Musselburgh is a seaside community, which focuses around a promenade, a beach and a lively high street. Together we will be stronger.
Our discussion forum will be augmented by the postings of the good people of Musselburgh and there will be obvious advantages, such as the sharing of hosting costs. However, we plan to take this cooperation much further.
For too long now, Portobello has been the poor Cinderella, left behind while our ugly sisters, Leith and Granton, have gone off to the developers’ fancy ball. Well, some of us are getting a little fed up waiting for our prince to come. We now have the opportunity to market Portobello-Joppa-Musselburgh as one combined seaside resort under the new brand – Forth Riviera.
I hope that you will welcome this brave new initiative, which I am sure will bring mutual rewards to both communities. Response so far has been very positive, although in the interests of balance it should be reported that concern has been expressed that Portobello might lose its identity by local historian, Archie Fooley.

The funny thing is that while I was concocting this story I was starting to think that maybe it wasn't a bad idea.
Based on an orignal concept by Porty, with apologies to Mr Foley.
My original idea was to announce that we had just discovered that the forum was only designed to handle a maximum of 20,000 posts and that we had therefore taken the decision to delete everything and start again.
Then I remembered that was Marya's job.
