Anyone ever answer at porty police station?

Post by stubetts » 28 Mar 2005, 21:41

Wife just phoned the police about the drunken kids on the Westbank/Hillcoat estate and got put through to Porty Police station where the phone just kept ringing. When we checked again the kids had moved away from our house (and car!) so we eventually gave up trying to get through. Any ideas on how to speak to someone from porty police station quicker. Its not a 999 call, but would still like something done about it at the time!

Sorry to hear this Stubetts, perhaps Bob can bring this up with the community police officer at the next meeting with PCC - or you could put a call/e-mail etc into Fettes and ask for an explanation.
Good Luck

Last year we had an ongoing issue and were advised by the police to call if anything further happened. The longest time that we had to let the phone ring into Portobello station was 35minutes! When we asked for advice we were told just to continue letting the phone ring. One officer said he had the same problem when trying to get in touch with the station. We had to resort to phoning 999 when things gor really out of hand and we could not get through to the station, ie when people were getting beaten up outside a certain pub.

I had expected the response rate to have improved now that there is a better staff cover at the station but I have also heard that Portobello is one of the busiest stations for calls. Clearly existing staff cover continues to be stretched and inadequate in numbers to meet the needs of the community.

Just had to phone the police station about 10 minutes ago and it only had to ring twice before it was answered, redirected then answered immediately. Very impressive! And not only that - the officer I spoke to said he would tell the police car that we saw just driving past to turn around - which they did! Impressed.

Yet again another group of youths, drunk , disorderly, loud, fighting each other and trying their best to kick the wing mirrors off cars on Marlborough Street. Really, really, really sick and tired of this and of how it all escalates during the school holidays. What is happening to Porty and our youths :x ?!

I've just driven through Musselburgh and into Porty and was just thinking how nice and quiet it was  Obviously missed this weekend's fun and games then! It's not just the holidays either DG, it's every single Friday and Saturday night with the odd weekday thrown in. I heard an horrific story about an airgun incident at Joppa recently and my friend in Pittville street had her bedroom window put in just the other night. Don't know what will ever be done about it though since nobody seems to be allowed to even breathe on the guilty :x

On Saturday, my neighbour had to chase 4 or 5 youths from my garden. He knew we had taken a family day out to the Melrose 7's and was surprised to see some youths had climbed the wall and were playing football and catch! Believe it or not - if it stopped there, it actually would not bother me too much.

The problem is that they started getting abusive and came back later threatening to to put my neighbour's windows in and kick wing mirrors etc. If I get my hands on them I will take my chances in court.
