I'm much too young to remember the cybermen Gemini
Anyone else felt spooked by the dalek in the George Street bookshop (the one that used to be 'The Edinburgh Bookshop' and is now 'Waterston's' without the 'e', I think

)?

Cybermen were absolutely my favourite baddies, next to the Master.
I loved the way the cybermen would make temporary allies then betray them.
When I was wee I wrote in to the BBC and asked for a signed photo of a Cyberman. Like, as if the BBC had time to fly a spaceship to Telos just for one kid. Duh!!

Well I don't mind admitting to the fact that I hate Dr Who

although I did watch it as a kid and liked the Daleks back then.
I also wrote to the BBC asking for a signed photograph, not of a Cyberman, but Petra from Blue Peter. I still have it (somewhere) and no Petra didn't sign it herself.

Marya, to go off topic a little, the Edinburgh Bookshop with the square clock outside was part of James Thin and became Ottakars [or however it's spelled] when Thins sold up. Still is Ottakars's?
Waterston's was a stationers - was on NW corner of George Street and Hanover Street then moved across to other side of George Street - then, sadly, 'ceased trading' well over a year ago, if my memory serves me right.

And spare a thought for froglette. As well as enjoying Dr Who, followed by Italy trouncing Scotland, I will also be drunkenly bellowing 'In-ger-land, In-ger-land' at the TV from around 3pm onwards.
I think she has plans to be elsewhere.

Terrifying news. I have just read a review of the new Dr Who. The Daleks that will be appearing later in the series are able to climb stairs! This means they could make appearances in all sorts of Edinburgh Bookstores.

That'll be the result of the access they can now get under the Disabilitity Discrimination Act!!

Wow! How good was that episode? I didn't feel that the new series had lived up to the hype and the farting aliens two-parter was puerile, but tonight's daleks episode was just superb. Some of the best television I have seen in years.

Anyone happen to tape it? We were away on Saturday and got back too late for Sunday's repeat. I meant to set our video but forgot
My son was really looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about daleks. He didn't think the one in the bookshop was at all scary and thought his Mum a complete wimp

We must be about ten days behind you, the Dalek episode is this Tuesday. Anything has got to be better than previous episodes, they have all been a bit of a letdown so far!

....and they're back next week!
Sandra's nieces, aged 8 and 11, are v much into Doctor Who, the 8 yr old loved the 'Mu-mee' episodes, but the 11 yr old couldn't sleep after the first one and was practically behind the sofa for the second one - looks like the new Doctor is having the same effect as the old ones

Play the Last Dalek
Discover what it's like to be a force of ultimate evil. You are the last Dalek. You must escape from VanStatten's base - but without Rose's help, you'll have to use the alien artefacts to build up your power. Can you escape?

Filming started last week for the Xmas special and new series featuring David Tennant as the new Doc.
I shall miss Christopher Ecclestone in the role. I thought he was a pretty cool Doc.
The last scene between him and Rose was rather moving. I had a wee tear in my eye as they kissed goodbye.
Here's a wee pic of Dr. David in his jammies for reasons which will no doubt become clear come Xmas. Most disappointed that you can see through the front and back doors of the Tardis and it's obviously just a wee blue box.

I know, but realistically it would never worked out in the long run. There was too much of an age gap.

It's not just a box, ecm - it's the Tardis.
What you can see might look like you're looking through some "prop", but it could also be :
1. A fake painting of what the open back of a "prop" tardis would look like, in order to put fans off the scent and make us think it's all made up, you know, like with the moon landings.
2. The real inside of the Tardis, which at that moment was identical to what it looked like outside the back of a supposed "prop" Tardis.
3. A mirror, and the three people you saw there were vampires.
Sorry, but I'm just not buying any of this conspiracy theory "TV set" rubbish.

Quite right, Dada. Don't know what I was thinking of. It's the Tardis so anything is possible.
Although, it might even be another fine example of anamorphic art.
I am reassured.

Yes, didn't think of that one. Those radio beams the CIA are pointing at my head must have confused me. Time to line the walls with silver foil again!

Just the walls? Are you sure that's enough?
We don't take any chances round here.
