Ive just purged my Plumber

Post by Porty » 16 Jan 2005, 17:00

After 6 months of what seems like random appearances, several occasions with no heating, the infamous S hit occurrence and quite literally not one single aspect of the project fully completed, I have had enough.

I had to text him to fire him as he has not been answering my telephone calls. Apparently he is going to write to me, i can hardly contain myself. If it is anything like I anticipate , it will likely tail off half way through.I've spent today chucking out all the things he left lying all over the house. I feel cleansed.

However, I still need a plumber to finish off what he started.

What kind of work was he doing for you? When he was around, that is?

I hope you find someone more reliable and professional soon, Porty. Six months is along time to live with all the upheaval and stress.

Good luck.

He was doing all sorts, installing new shower and bathrooms, external rhunes, extending central heating system, installing Saniflows and moving the Boiler from one room to another. I wished it was only 6 months of upheaval. This was the fourth plumber in 17 months.

Porty, I've recommended a great plumber on here a good few times now. PM me if you want his number.

Porty's made me come over all warm now after his belated congrats on another thread and made me feel really guilty for not being more sympathetic to his plumberless plight .......so you can have the name of my plumber too Porty :D
He's got a plumbing firm and it sounds as though you need more than one guy for your 'wee' extension. Mind you, you may want to check out the quality of my plumbing first

Porty

we followed Lizzies recommendation gentleman who turned up as advertised for a small job and were so happy we had a cup of tea. A belated thanks here to Lizzie!

(Despite the fact that he had unsuccessfully previously quoted a job for the poster formerly known as bob he didn't hold that against us.)

We also spoke with bellybabes dude who sounded like a good option but he had returned my message just too late.

If you try them out for me before we hit our own kitchen and bathroom works I should be grateful!

The man who owned the plumbers Alexanders, in the High Street is still in business. His name is David McInnes. I am sure I have his phone no. at home if it would be useful.

Thanks guys. I will contact one of those plumbers and hope for the best. I think i will get them just to finish off what the ex Plumber did.

It is clear that much of the work he has done will need to be redone. I really can't face it at the moment.

Is your central heating working at least Porty? It's typical that things go wrong as soon as the weather takes a turn for the worse :(

Well its working after a fashion It has to be kep on permanently, if you switch it off then it stays off. This should be fine for the next few days.

No letter has arrived as yet.

Deepest sympathies Porty! Been there, done that but with a Builder :? You can bet that if he does ever write to you, you will suddenly have become the problem/reason that nothing was finished. It will be your fault  Anybody who knows my normally extremely placid husband will understand how bad things got when he was reduced to kneeling on said builder's path shouting at him through the letterbox  Another few spinning classes and you too could be fit enough to do that!!
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Well,it serves me right for not being more sympathetic to your plight Porty. I've just discovered that the carpet in one of our basement rooms is soaking wet. Water has been coming in from under an outside door, but it looks like it's due to a backed up :pottytrain4: drain.

My sympathies too, Porty.
One of the reasons I moved from my old flat was that I was sick of repairs. I had been driven demented my damp-proofers not doing their job properly and I had had installed central heating and the boiler had a strange intermittent problem where it kept not working and it had to get its "brain" replaced.
I moved to a first floor flat to get away from damp problems and now I have a drain problem. 1 firm came out and hasn't bothered to quote, the second firm says nearly 4and a half thousand to fix it. Thank God I'm in a stair.

:crybaby: :crybaby:

It's happened again. Our wee conservatory is full of used bog roll and the lovely cream wool carpet in the downstairs living room is awash with sewage. The @£$%^& drain outside blocked and flooded again. The drainage guys traced the blockage back to a neighbour's manhole where they reckon tree roots have blocked the pipe. They've cleared it and at least we can take steps to make sure it won't happen so easily again.

Meantime the place smells and several weeks of chemical spraying etc lies ahead. I also doubt if we'll be able to get carpets etc replaced by Christmas :(

Thanks Rapunzell. I feel much more cheery now I've had a glass or two of wine. I really did feel like crying earlier on, but it'll all get sorted out soon enough I'm sure and if it doesn't, it'll be a great excuse not to have guests over the Christmas period

The guys who cleared the drain were great. What a way to spend your Friday night; in the dark, up to your armpits in someone else's crap. :sad3:

I just shut the door to it on Friday Sandra and have tried not to think about it since.

The clean-up company appointed by our insurers arrive this afternoon so I'll get a better idea then, of the extent of things. So far, I'm not at all happy with the service from our insurers. The last time AXA, our insurers, were fantastic and dealt with things immediately and very efficiently. This time round we're with a different insurance company and it is the very opposite

Things aren't too bad thanks Poppy. Once the carpet was pulled back we could see that the water hadn't penetrated too far into the room so really only floor coverings, a pair of curtains and a storage box have to be replaced. They've cut away and disposed of the wet areas of flooring and there's 3 big noisy machines working away to dry out and santise the area. It already looks and smells fine. They are returning next week to check out how things are going.
