Soupy had a holiday in Kefalonia, land of Captain Corelli's Mandolin

All set for lunch on the balcony, note how far away the taverna was!

Then the beach, a bit warmer than Porty

Then some traditional Greek food

Well the menu said Shirley Valentine Special- I've never eaten a cliche before

We went to Fiskardo, where all the posh folk hang around in their boats

Welcome back, SoupD. An AMS fan, I see!!

Lovely pics (well, perhaps "lovely" is not the right description for the SV breakfast!!), but at least our beach is sandy...!!

Had great holiday there too a couple of summers back SD. Nicholas Cage seemed to have eaten in every restaurant we visited. He must have some appetite.

Yup, borrowed Espresso tales from my mum to read on holiday.
Got the no1 ladies detective agency in a charity shop before going and have left it in Katelios in the hope someone else will enjoy it as much as I did ( don't worry my mum has copies)

That beach was a bit on the shingley side but its blue flag and 10 mins walk along from the village. My sis had got me a pair of Croc shoes so they were very handy there. The beach straight across from our apartment was sandy and shallow so I was in there everyday for a swim. Pondered about running down to Porty beach and continuing this endeavour but ITS TOO COLD!

I did eat lots of the local food, Briam ( roasted veg) Gemista ( stuffed tomatoes ) and lots of lovely local salads
Mr Soupy discovered the local "chippy" which did gyros and various roasted meats.
He also enjoyed the clear skies and would lie on a sunbed at night staring at the stars

Not unless Bruce Wayne has moved to Lichfield.

It's the Shot at Dawn memorial commemorating those British soldiers who were shot for cowardice during the First World War.

The Arboretum is worth a visit too.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

Correct Rathbone. We were visiting the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.

Though often very moving, it is a pleasant place to visit. All the services such as the Police, the Navy, the Air Force etc. have their own section, planted with trees and usually a sculpture, to commemorate those who contributed to that particular service. However, it goes beyond just the services. For example, it also has areas to mark those who were victims of road accidents or stillbirths or couples who have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversaries. The planting is still being carried out so the Arboretum will look better in a few decades time, but it's still worth a visit.

Don't think it is by AG - to be honest, I can't remember who the artist is!

Road Kill Guy is in fact Ossian and is to be found at the beautiful setting of The Hermitage near Dunkeld.

that one deceives the eye a bit - looks like the cupola is on the side of the building rather than the usual top!

Yeah, a bit deceptive because of the extreme wide angle lens. The building is the Guggenheim - was disappointed the the exterior was covered in scaffolding!

I was safely behind glass for the last shot, not scaling the exterior! ;) (that was the top of the Rockefeller))

Was just going to post Guggenheim - they all have v. distinctive deep balconies. Shame about the scaffolding. There are probably forums all over the states that have threads about people's holidays here and going to Roslin and finding the same.

Indeed. St Phillip's Church held a singalonga Sound of Music charity night. Great fun and we even managed to win the quiz! Emily loves musicals and TSOM is her favourite.

heard there was a walk up the Pentlands the other week with folk dressed as characters from SOM.
Would have loved to have seen that or the looks on the ramblers faces as they went past.
Could have been worse
Imagine Rocky Horror Picture Show hiking the hills!

Classic line from last night. On our way to St Phillip's my wife made a remark about tarts and vicars parties. Mishearing, Emily asked 'What's a tartan vicar?'

Yeah, was going to say that too - right at the top of the Prom...

Bob, I hope you took the car to where ever it was you were going - wouldn't be done to be seen out and about dressed up like that!
