The Lighthouse down at Granton will be looking for a new home soon. Could we incorporate them into the clubhouse. For those not in the know they are a recording/rehersal studio with the rumour of bondage club after hours ( read it in the Evening News, honest ).

I think it is a magic idea but we should not just stop at a skateboard area. The entire portobello park and golf course area should be fully utilised and have a new PHS and a myriad of adjacent recreational facilities for use by all the community. If there was a demand for a new golf course then it could be built just up the road.

P.S. Chocolate Gingers - Yuk!

Can we include an "alternative " club for under 18's, once a week, in the clubhouse , to fill the void of Studio24/ the mission/Sanctury.

I think a specified Young Porty area in the community is a GREAT IDEA.

Once we get all the kids and youth in there, we can erect barbed wired fencing and manned armed watchtowers every 30 metres or so to keep them there! If any escape ... well, then ... they are obviously good enough to go on to become politicians and get on the community council. Those who don't can later apply to become ordinary, mundane, well-behaved pris ... citizens of Porty!

From todays Evening News and its irritated my digestive system far more than a CCG ever could:

Serious injury not a healthy future
UNDER the heading "Skaters' fight far from over" (News, November 29), Joe Tree informs us that skateboarders are not "neds" or troublemakers. And society still owes him and his friends a free skatepark.

How ironic! The Inverleith Park scheme upset a lot of people because it entailed destruction and noise. But Mr Tree is not prepared to admit it was a mistake. Just like a yob, he blames the complainers for being unreasonable.

Listing all the authorities who have been conned into providing free facilities for wheeled recreations, Mr Tree can't understand why some Edinburgh folk don't want to give in to his demands.

"Skateboarders commit less crime," he boasts. Presumably that's due to them spending so much time leaping about on wheeled boards, an activity he describes as "skilful, healthy and demanding".

But just how healthy is it to end up with broken limbs or a serious head injury? The boy in the photo beside Mr Tree's article has no helmet, or knee or elbow pads.

Skateboarding has a long history of boom then bust in the US. Rising popularity leads to nuisance on the streets, then skateparks to solve the problem, which only leads to more sidewalk surfing and a rising tide of injuries, until it gets banned in some cities or people just get sick of seeing kids with broken bones.

Is that what Joe Tree means when he writes about investing in the future of our children?

My 13 year old nephew LOVES his skateboard (he's a bit of a goth) and I want a skateboard park for him! All his mates are into it ... It's a kid thing ...
