In a taxi with the wee one the other day,and as she has the gift off the gab was talking to the driver

It turns out that it is his taxi and he was a football player.

His name is Gordon Hunter which means nothing to her or myself until he told her he played for Hibs.At this point both started to sing all the hibs songs.

A good time was had by both and made our time in the taxi fun

Penguin Biscuits

Did you have a break between adverts or was that seen as playing into a competitors' hands?

Tell us the story then.
Okay-dokay:
Whilst at St' Johns' Primary in Porty, I amongst a couple of other "cub scouts" were chosen to be in the Penguin adverts.
If memory serves me right, there were two ad's.
One was the Penguin Races, the other was something about putting up a tent and being distracted by a penguin biscuit, and real penguin pulled the tents down.

Got £50.00 for the few days.

Have seen it on the telly maybe once or twice, would love to know if it's on the net. But haven't been able to get it.

If anyone does find it please forward a link - or maybe not on second thoughts!

I was at Porty at that time but I have a vague recollection of the Penguin thing. So Pengiuns have been around for at least 30 years. Imagine how many have been produced? I can't. I'm sure they used to be top biscuits but now they seem low-end. Did they de-choclated them (chocolate flavour) or that may have been Club. They had to do a quick about turn as the public said no.

Was getting my hair cut last week, when Alex Arthur walked into the barbers (was just after his last fight that was on ITV on the Saturday night). A genuine, down-to-earth, nice guy who doesn't seem to have succumbed to any of the nasty side-effects that often seem to come with fame for some people, ie. arrogance and delusions of grandeur!

I googled Penguin biscuits and got this ...
Penguin - Perfect when you're P... P... P... peckish

McVitie's most popular chocolate biscuit bar, Penguin, is now over 65 years old. One of the first biscuits to be advertised by name rather than company, its association with the distinctive birds (the packaging featuring a giant Emperor Penguin) is synonymous with the brand's appeal.

Penguin was first produced in 1932 by William McDonald, a biscuit manufacturer in Glasgow, and became a McVitie's brand when McDonald joined with McVitie's and Price, MacFarlane Lang & Co and Crawford to form United Biscuits in 1946.

As well as the poplar milk chocolate product, Penguin is also available in delicious orange and mint flavours within variety packs. The perfect treat for any lunchbox.
So now we know. :) (self-satisfied smirk)!!!

Geebsie seems to be the busiest taxi driver in Edinburgh at the moment - you're about the fourth person in a week who I've heard of having him as their driver :D

Ellen at work is the mum of Paul, the drummer in Franz Ferdinand.

Mick and Charlie of the Stones once came in to the record shop where I worked in Portobello Road in London. They were recording the "It's Only Rock n Roll" album at Basing Street Studios round the corner. They looked like a couple of tramps - and yes, they had a browse through the Stones section.

I met Nico from the Velvet Underground, the drummer from the Grateful Dead and Little Steven from Springsteen's band in Cockburn Street, Edinburgh - not on the same day I hasten to add.

Oh and Beatle George once tripped over my foot and apologised. I didn't recognise him and only found out later who it was.

I won one of them at St John's one year, about 7 0r 8 years ago. I put it back in the raffle. When I told my fellow Hearts loving friend, thinking he would find it amusing he remonstrated with me for not having punctured it first.

Thought for a minute it might be the same football but it was more than 8 years ago as she's 21 now. Ted Brack was still headmaster, he offered to take it off her hands but she wanted to keep it!

Well I'm guessing at the years. It may well be the same ball. Ted was in a state of shock when I put it back. He has mentioned it a few times since.

You can reassure Ted that she's still got the Hibs ball, though it's not got pride of place on the mantlepiece she is quite fond of it.
