Sounds good. Better if we keep out of the immediate area

We had lunch in the 102 yesterday. I was expecting something special but this was very much 'run of the mill' fare and typically crap British standards of service.
Today we decided to try Ducks at Aberlady. After sorting out some nonsense about where we could eat depending on what menu we chose from, I was impressed with our lamb and beef main courses. Thereafter, however, things went rapidly downhill. The kitchen appeared to be completely incapable of keeping up with the orders and we waited a mighty long time for our desserts. In the meantime, several other customers gave up and left. As we were leaving, a plus-four attired gentlemen had decided to take the intiative and strode into the kitchen, menu in hand, to cut out the middle man.

Can anyone recommend a local restaurant with really big spaces in between the tables?
The overall restaurant priorities are: view of the sea, cool breeze, room to manoevre, good puddings. Not necessarily in that order

You certainly eat out a lot Bob

And sound a nightmare to please
BTW Malcolm Duck is ages with me and hails from the neighbouring village. His dad, Donald, was the local GP.

So are they the same people who had the classy restaurant in the New Town? I recall good food and a beautiful daughter.

The answer is yes if you mean 'Duck's at le Marche Noir'.

Yep! He was born and named Donald before the Disney character was created. A very nice man I may add.

In Eyre Place. Another great restaurant I remember from that era is Merchants. Remind me to tell you about a business lunch I had there once many years ago that isn't entirely suitable for this forum.

True about Donald Duck.
Malcolm Duck was alsp a rugby referee for a number of years and among the poorest that I experienced in many years of playing. I recall one game against Annan where he was incredibly bad. A wag approached him afterthe game and said " Ref, I thought your stud checking was impeccable". He took it in good spirits.
He also spoke at the Portobello dinner one year and unfortunatley for him he was last on and the guys were P*****.

I heard he loved the Navy took to it like a Duck to water.
I also heard he can put on a great soul singing performance.

Good, we can swap stories, though I'm willing to bet yours is much less suitable for this forum than mine.

By that do you mean mine will have juicy gossip, general debauchery and swearing and in it and yours won't?

Well, I don't want to raise your expectations, though you have certainly raised mine. Were you lunching with Boris Becker by any chance?

I couldn't possibly confirm or deny that since all participating parties must remain anonymous.
