I was, I went in with BC when he went to work this morning so was in nice quiet shops at 9am, got most of Christmas shopping and a b'day pressie for the Bearcub.
There is a nice new Paperchase shop on George Street, with usual cards, paper, diaries, ipod covers etc.
Apart from peeping your pantechnicon at me as you whizzed past at lunchtime - on your way to put on your gladrags and makeup no doubt???Porty wrote:Tomorrow is going to be the long not so good friday and its a two day event. There will be silence from these quarters for a while from around 1pm tomorrow.

We went out for a (pre?) birthday dinner tonight, to The Kitchin at Commercial Quay. Not been open long, but heard good things about it, and the expectations were well and truly met.Sandra wrote:Going to finish my christmas shopping and get BC a birthday present for Sunday
Waiter had me with the one of the specials, a "starter for the adventurous", so Pig's Head with Crispy Pig's Ears and Langoustine tails it was
Main course was Fillet of beef Bourdelaise with Bone Marrow and cep mushrooms and (the creamiest, richest ever) potato gratin. Lip-smackingly good.
Can seriously recommend it to anyone who wants a place for a special occasion meal.
Ditto.. fab meal
I had game terrine with ginger and apple chutney, with geen beans garnish with slivers of toast. Then I had the special of venison with wine and juniper berry sauce with celeriac puree with beetroot crisps, beetroot and celeriac gratin, chanterelle mushrooms and it tasted fab amd not too restaurant arranged.
A husband and wife team which love and enjoy what the are doing, and have a long track record in the business, all I can say is visit, its a welcome edition to Leith. I'm sure they will as it was full Sat night.

A definte YES X FACTOR to the local (well near) restaurant economy

Off to the Malmaison in Leith for a meal with freinds later today. No doubt X-Factor will be in our conversations somewhere.
I go there infrequently, but it is one of Edinburgh's best.
So ... what do you think is the best eatery in Portie ... and why? I must admit I never think of it as a place to go out for a meal of an evening ... what's your take??

Not a great choice. But Blue Bean cafe on a Friday/Saturday night is very good. Also a new restaurant opening shortly called Reds, which is family friendly too. Select is good but quite expensive.Cleopas wrote: So ... what do you think is the best eatery in Portie ... and why? It was expensive but the whole ambience/food/service was excellent. Only negative was the puddings, nice enough but no Wow factor after two amazing courses.Porty wrote:S & B was the kitchin value for money? I have only read a couple of reviews and know three people who have been and they all say the food is delicious.

Had mine last night - was brilliant fun - and had no trouble at all getting a taxi home, in fact we managed to get three within two minutes from Broughton St at about 1am. Hope you have the same luck tonight M! have fun.Marya wrote:Way hey! I've got my work's Xmas night out tonight![]()
(Though not looking forward to the usual trouble trying to get a taxi back home in the wee small hours.)
I'm having a quiet night in to recover from last night. Other half is off to London for the weekend though and I've got supervision all day tomorrow so not the best fun weekend planned.
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

We're meeting at my colleague's flat for a glass or two of Prosecco (we're public sector employees remember, we can't afford the real stuff). Next is a meal at ' The Lemon Grass ' then drinks wherever takes our fancyPorty wrote:Whare are you off to?Marya wrote:Way hey! I've got my work's Xmas night out tonight![]()
