I remember Harveys, it was one of my favourite places and used to go there a lot.
I'm afraid I remember it more for their banana splits though, they were scrummy. I also used to love their burger meals untill I got a caterpillar free gratis with my salad one day.It was never the same after that.

Good and gald you remember. Am I right in thinking that it started out as an upmarket burger bar but the people preferred lager to burgers and the owners had to meet their clients needs

Yup, that's about right. Towards the end it got pretty grotty and I stopped going to it. I loved it in its heyday though, lots of happy memories. :D

Hi Sandman and welcome to the forum.
I see you're having a bit of a clear out over in pBay!

What exactly is a sick board anyway? :?

I very much like the sound of your Bali Dream but am a bit low (i.e out of) all the ingredients bar the orange juice.
Had never heard of Passoa but googled and found out that it's passionfruit juice.

I'll have to make do with my cocoa for this evening.

I'm not so much a cocktail person but I do like some liqueurs!!!
There's one I get in Spain called " cuarenta y tres" ( licor 43). It's a toffee liqueur and goes down a dream, lovely and warm!!! mmmmm
Another one I get in Canada. Great name, it's called, would you believe,Dr. McGillicuddy's Fireball!!! ( sounds like a cough linctus!!!)
But it's a whiskey shooter. I don't really like whisky, but this has cinnamon in it, so I like this one!!! This one's a bit warmer when it goes down!!! Hence the name " Fireball"!!!
Hic!!!!

I had a lovely =P~ vanilla liqueur in that Tapas bar that used to be on Forrest Road, but have no idea what it was and have never been able to trace it since. If I could ever find it again I would order a case

Black Forest Martini

Post by Sandra » 14 Oct 2005, 23:34

never tried this but sounds nice (out this month's olive magazine)

muddle 5 fresh blackberries in a cocktail shaker with 12½ ml Finlandia vodka (or other plain vodka - e.g. smirnoff), 25ml creme de mure(blackcurrants), dash frangelico. Shake with ice and then double strain into a chilled martini glass. Using a long-handled spoon add a layer of single cream by slowly running the cream down the handle so that it sits on top of the drink. (easier said than done when pissed). Sprinkle with drinking chocolate and garnish with a blackberry. Serves 1.

Frangelico - brings back memories when I worked at the Garden Festival in Glasgow at a famous ice cream emporium - some of us used to make ice cream specials, one girl wore this beautiful handcrafted mother or pearl ring(or something similar) - someone ordered a frangelico special (ice cream, frangelico liqueur, choccie sauce, nuts etc) well she found out she'd lost her ring much to the bemusement of one customer who chewed on it... :pale:

See, that's just too much effort to go to. All that fruit and chilled glass.....................and it only serves one!

Couldn't you just settle for a big glass of vodka with a scoop of some fancy Ben and Jerry ice cream in it?

A vodka float, if you will?

I was making some martinis for the priest household the other night - and the recipe said that you shouldn't shake them, as it 'bruises' the gin. Despite this being utter nonsensical tosh, I stirred. But I still don't understand how gin can bruise???

Making martinis - you really are dead posh, you!

Do you really expect the likes of Sandra and I to worry if our gin is bruised?

When I said "the other night' I really meant "about 5 years ago." But I am still confused about the bruising of gin.

Now I have a glass of white wine, a glass of glenmorangie and a glass of water in front of me. If I mix them together, will that count as a cocktail? Will anything bruise?

You're right though. I am dead posh, me.

Mr. P, I apologise profusely!

I've been for a google and it seems gin bruises very easily. Who'd of thunk?

Apparently, bruised gin tastes like rubbing alcohol. That can't be all that bad then, can it? :P

See? I am posh. And I graciously accept your apology, albeit in a very upper class manner.

Rubbing alcohol seems a bit of a waste, doesn't it?

Surely though the gin would get bruised anyway as it hit the pit of one's empty stomach? :?

find Epykat's lack of opinion on the subject of cocktails slightly worrying, since she has systematically worked her way through the menu at Zinc bar.

Sounds very messy.

At least she took the time to find out his name and profession.
