Sorry for being so rude

Post by Libby » 29 Jul 2007, 00:23

I am sorry but i have to say this, i was brought up not very far from Portobello and i have very fond memory's of when my mother used to take me along with my brother and 20 other children from the street down to Portobello in the Summer.

A great time was had by all.

I was actually in Portobello recently for the first time in many years and i felt that i was trapped in a Time Zone, Now i hear you say that should be good as nothing has changed, we all want to keep some things as they are because that can be good.

I remember Portobello where people were always happy, took time to stop and chat and just have a wander along the High street, sorry this was not my experience, there was no peace and quiet, it was more Hustle and Bustle than what goes on in Princess street on a Saturday.

The Traffic was Horrendous, waited ages on a Bus to go home as the traffic Que was massive.

Yet we have another group set up to object to something that they want to put at Portobello that many people could benefit from. Someone from the Group says it would spoil the Beach, this group of people need to take off there Rose Colored Glasses, yes as i say the buildings are still as they were 30 years ago, i would get more pleasure shopping in Kinaired Park on a Saturday than doing it in Portobello.

This is where i am going to become unpopular, a lot of people objected to the Superstore saying it would put a lot of Local Shopkeepers out of Business, strong objections prevented it from happening, am i to assume all these people who objected to the Superstore do there weekly or monthly shopping in these local shops ? No i bet you don't, i bet you all go to Asda, Morrison's, Tescos, Marks & Sparks, Sorry i rest my case.

Another objection, and because of these objections some people might miss out on something that could be beneficial to them.

Sorry, Porty is now becoming a laughing stock at the amount of objections, that fly through.

Maybe another new group should be set up to object to all the objections that go on.

Names for this new group gratefully appreciated.

Have a nice day now.

Libby

Funny thing is one of them actually has rose tinted glasses.

I have to differ with you there, I've tried both and doing it in Portobello wins every time.

Maybe I wear rose coloured specs because I do do my shopping in Porty and enjoy it. Yes I go to Morrisons as well but only once every two to three weeks or so. Can't stand supermarkets bigger than M's for some reason. I like that I know the folk in the shops here and I like that I always bump into people we know when we go out. I do notice that lately I have been avoiding the Prom on Sunday though - it always seems to be fully of numpties especially the Bath St to fun fair side.
I have been thinking a lot about all the nimbyism and it has got to the laughable stage especially when you see how run down some parts of Porty look.

As Morrissey Sang,

PB wasn't talking about Morrisey it was Morrisons. Morrisey was the founder of the union of the shoplifters of the world . I can't imagine Morrisons being too pleased about that.

forget Action Groups. We need to organise a lynchmob now that the culprit who destroyed our beloved pyramids has been caught on film...

**slightly concerned that some of the more enthusiastic groupies might take this seriously**
