I went to a few nights out there when I worked at the Scotch House.

Had a wee tour of Dunbar on Sat as I caught the X6 from East Linton to meet Plug who was mincing the line as a touch judge ( ) for PHS FP RFC. Lots of big surf!!

Excuse me you two - ras and me were having a good old "grumpy men of pol row" over here.

This thread was already hijacked once by some gossip about taxis.

Where are the moderators when you need one? As rare as an X26 outside the rush hour.

Away and start your own thread if you want to bore each other with yer tittle tattle about buses to Dunbar via Tranent (for goodness sake)

Last post, contd.

In fact, no doubt, I'll be sitting peacefully nibbling on my salad at lunch in the canteen tomorrow when darkness will fall over my table and a voice will start grumbling and moaning - accusing me of something or other.

Yes. Don't seem to as many as before - but in recent weeks have seen a few. One was an ex neighbour of Plug's as it happens.

The trouble is that they are so rare it's easy to lose your ticket, but I remember that aaaaaaaages ago it was second nature to retain one's ticket for the inspector.

Why do you want to know - are you intending to actually get on a bus????

They're a rare breed these days but one got on my bus at Piershill a few months ago and I got out my seat to get off at Meadowbank as he came upstairs. Even tho I had a ticket I couldn't help feeling guilty as I passed him.

ecm works with a woman who has told her that she would get on a bus but is too scared to. She was last on a bus in the days of the clippie. She doesn't understand them now and wouldn't know what to do!!!!

One time my dad got on a 4 at london road after one of the mega sessions the dockers used to have. He went round the route three times afore the driver woke him up and advised him where to get off.

I think the 26 is an excellent bus route - one end of the earth to the other :D . However, it does get a bit much most nights and I agree with ras, half of them are empty. If it was a REGULAR 10 minute service it would make more sense. Then they wouldn't catch up with each other but 10 minutes isn't too long to wait in between. On the up side, the frequency of buses makes me keep the living room tidy and I had thought about doing something for the Fringe next year at my front windows just for the top floor passengers.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

When I was in Primary 5 or 6 I spent my christmas money on a Millennium Falcon. Me, mum and my sister had gone up town, but I had been let home with my new purchase. I got on one of Lothian's finest and sat upstairs at the front holding this box that seemed about as big as I was, in its John Menzies bag.

A couple of stops later and on came the ticket inspector. He came upstairs and asked me for my ticket. I must have forgotten to take it, I said. He took one look at me clutching Han's old bucket of bolts and said I should try and remember next time, and then moved along - going about his business.

I definitely wasn't the fare-dodger he was looking for.

I like buses.
I like being on buses. I like reading the paper on buses. I like the people on buses (mostly). I like it that they (should) reduce congestion. I like that they(should) help the environment.

I also like wine - but too much of a good thing can make you question your reasons for partaking of them in the first place.

From tomorrow "certain 80p fares" on First Bus go up to £1.

I assume all the rest remain the same. (which reminds me of a quote from some minutes of a meeting I saw at work "the status quo remains the same" and they were not talking about the popular beat combo!!)

I had strong words with one. I got on the bus at Kitcheners, paid my 80p I knew would take me to the West End, didn't look at my ticket, foolishly trusting in the machine, and on Princes St got told by the only inspector I've seen in six years of living here to make sure I paid the correct fare next time. I said I had. He said my ticket said I'd only paid as far as St Andrew's Sq or somewhere. I told him where I got on (and told him where to get off!), and pointed out it said on the bus stop 80p would take me to the West End and if the driver's machine was wrong that was not my problem. Then I stormed off the bus (at the West End) and realised I'd not had enough caffeine for breakfast.

So yes, they still have them, and I DON'T LIKE THEM.

Well, I've been paying 80p all this week and the drivers haven't said anything.

They wouldn't dare though as I'm so scary.

I only said that as a daft laugh.

A bit like when they send our staff in groups for external training, except we're no longer to use the word "group" we have to say "cohort".
