I think the analogy only goes so far in that it would be rude butting into a private conversation and then complain about how you are treated by the participants. They could rightly suggest you go and talk to someone else. But this is supposed to be a place that belongs to everyone and no one small group of members should decide what's right and what's wrong. If someone feels uncomfortable that needs to be addressed rather than saying "Well that's how we do things. If you don't like it go away."

If I was a potential member looking in from the outside over the last 4 days I would a) be thinking why didn't Dadaist start a thread called "Things that annoy me" rather than sending a discussion on an important issue off on a frustrating tangent b) I would be very reluctant to contribute to the thread on car crime for fear of being torn to shreds.

HAHAHAHA I bet you're one of those people who when in the pub are still wanting to talk about what was being discussed 5 minutes ago when the conversation has, er, moved on as, um, conversations tend to do. Something about natural flow or whatever. And you can always go back on topic, yeah. And it's only a frustrating tangent in the eyes of the beholder. Put it back on topic anytime you wants.
I would be very reluctant to contribute to the thread on car crime for fear of being torn to shreds.
Why, were you thinking of advocating extra-judicial reprisals against minors too?

Mr G, I don't think anyone - ie Tigger Rules - was made to feel uncomfortable. She/he was welcomed and, remember, thanked people for this welcome in her/his last post. She/he decided that she/he didn't want to post anymore because conversations were not serious enough and were too tangential for her/his liking.

As I said in my previous post, and as Arachnid, who has not been around much longer than me on POL, agreed - we were made to feel wonderfully welcome, and this seems to me always to be the case with new people posting.

I don't often disagree with you Gedge but I do today. The only person who decided what was right or wrong was Tigger. We were having a reasonable debate/conversation/whatever you want to call it about something we felt could possibly affect us and the community. We were not gossiping, or slandering or starting any rumours. He/she decided that was wrong and then accused us of all sorts of things we either hadn't said or hadn't done. Despite this, more or less everybody who answered welcomed him/her to the forum and expressed a wish that he/she would stay. I've said it before - if somebody feels uncomfortable with a thread - stop reading it. Nobody told Tigger to go away - he/she decided to do that . Unfortunately for Tigger I will not change my sense of humour to accommodate her/him. I enjoy having a laugh on this forum and the day I start taking every single word on here as gospel or becoming upset by it, or being offended by it, or losing any sleep over it I will leave. Life's way, way too short to get bogged down by imagined insults, snubs and pretend rumours. I personally would be delighted that somebody thought I was interesting enough to make up a rumour about me and then bother to post it on a forum - so if anybody wants to take up the challenge please feel free. Until then, either like me or lump me.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
