Very brave of you Gedge: I managed to avoid the option of attending by means of ( the expensive) option of letting mrs m take both the car and the cheque card to IKEA. She has subsequently suggested that in so doing, I am now nothing more than a seedy cyber-stalker with the social grace of er, a man. So I may find myself pushed out the door into the whirling drunken throng at the next event...

And you too will be made most welcome - especially if you bring your wallet, your POL Tee shirt and you flit to Marlborough Street pronto

Come to think of it, when I was young and foolish, I spent a good few years in Marlboro Country. I really don't fancy going back.

Anyone remember that urban myth thing about how Marlboro was sponsored by the KKK?

I think we should split up, with the bonoful people enjoying a nice Ruby for their Xmas dinner, and we could have a laptop at each seperate do with a webcam streaming the other lot's "party". And at the Bonoful we could all stick our fingers up at the Heid lot and the fact that they went over the border to Dunndingston to get served chips. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Our work's Xmas do is even worse. We have tactical voting, bloc voting, the lot. After all the politics, the meal is usually a huge anti-climax. Two members of staff have already stated that they were so embarassed by last year's event that they are waiting to see who is going before they decide.
I wasn't that bad. Honest!

It often happens round Xmas time - why not ignore the food and just get wasted on wine!

My game plan is to wait until everyone else who is going has voted. Then, with the votes tied between Bonoful and the Sheep's Heid, I'm going to approach both and see who is prepared to offer me the most for my casting vote.

As it is starting to look like a straight choice between Bonoful and Sheep's Heid I will try to get menus up for both. A menu from Sheep's Heid is in the post. If we went for this option, perhaps we could book the bowling alley as well?

Thanks to all who have stopped me in the street to say hello, following the POL bash at the Dalriada. Unfortnately myself and Lury (a Lurker) observed the gathering from a distance, whilst lubricating our throats, for several hours before being coaxed over - and were slightly the worse for wear when we did join the fold. Oops....quite sociable when sober, so if you do see me, stop for a chat - I might not recognise you, but I don't bite!

While the rest of us were stone cold sober

I thought you coped with all the attention very well Granty. Will you and Lury be joining us for the next do slightly earlier next time?

Re skittles:
If we want a social and sport combination why not curry followed by midnight volleyball on the beach?
We had a work do at the skittles not long ago and it was a good night out. The buffet wasn't fantastic but I think the pub meals might be better. Had real trouble booking it for a weekend less than several months in advance.
The bowling balls are very very heavy (delicate people in the party had trouble propelling them the distance to reach the skittles) and you need to take turns putting the skittles up again should anyone be lucky/skilled enough to knock one over (or I believe you can hire school children to do this for you). But it is a good mixture of doing something and have the chance to socialise.
I would prefer to support a local establishment but would be happy to come along wherever, mostly so my diary looks as if I'm really popular and busy.

I've just gone and arranged a work night out for the 9th December. Probably not too late to change it but could do with a date for the POL night as soon as pos. I propose the 2nd!

I second that.
