but my digicam batteries are charging as we speak.
i would like to take this opportunity to thank ned and ifstar for recharging my political batteries. a couple of days of reading their asinine rubbish has really got me back in the mood.

I wish I'd had a camera with me at lunchtime so I could have snapped a lone man and his wee dog doing a "Tiannamen Square" outside Meadowbank House.
There must have been in excess of 50 police vehicles, bikes, cars, vans all with sirens and lights convoying at speed towards town.
I thought the guy was just trying to cross the road at first but then he held one hand up and just stopped dead in his tracks in front of a car. As it weaved about so did he and the dog.
For a good 2 or 3 minutes he hurled abuses as the various vehicles tried to get around him til he was eventually bundled into the back of one of the vans.
I expect a swift talking to was administered and he was probably booted out somewhere further along London Road.

That many around it was bound to happen. Likewise a copper in hospital after doing the beat in Sterling - was run down by Police too...mr magnolia wrote:someone's changed sides?
Would make interesting reading.Porty wrote:The young man that lives next door, in the soon to be gated enclave that is West Brighton Crescent, did a PHD in Anarchy at Bristol University after gaining a 1st from Edinburgh. The PHD paper.
My favourite anarchist, as opposed to the historical ones (Bakunin, Kropotkin, Makhno, Proudhon, Goldman, Serge, Durutti) is the very nice Portobello resident who ran Evergreen. I respect her as a political artist like no other - she combines being green, anarchist and Quaker with a political backbone which makes me respectively humble and jealous.
One of my life's more memorable embarrassing moments came when she popped round to my flat to pick up a big pile of anti-war (Afghan) leaflets, and interrupted me building a model kit of a Soviet tank
I don't often blush.
Another time was when she mentioned that Evergreen were going to do coffees. I said they should do takeaway too and get in some of those disposable wax/paper cups and was politely reminded that Evergreen was an environmentally friendly establishment, and I was welcome to bring my own mug.
Thanks for tolerating me all the years I lived down Marlborough street, friend.

Tsk, Porty - you are usually a language fusspot too. I think you meant implied not inferred?
Anyway, re Mr M's remark: there is an apocryphal story of a mum on an Aberdeen bus whose child kept saying "Eh?". Exasperated, she shouted "It's no' "Eh" - it's "Fit!"
[Teddygirl should get this, if no one else!!]

I'm having a senior moment - What's the heck is/was the name of that group of three Aberdonian professional men (e.g. one a doctor) who had a stage show performed in the vernacular?
While doing a half-hearted search on Google, I came across this on the website of my alma mater Aberdeen jokes
[Sorry, this has gone right off topic and should probably be he "Only good jokes thread!?

Edinburgh born and bred, but spent four years in Aberdeen having fun as a student. However, I do still lapse into the occasional Aberdeen pronunciation even after nearly 30 years away, I'm told
