Interesting thread. Look forward to swapping fruit & veg tips with you guys. Our plot is up at the Porty East Junction allotments, next to Brunstane Bowling Club. Never met such a soor pussed lot as the bowlers. All these years and we've only ever had a few friendly ones pass the time of day. Thankfully our site is owned by the allotment association and not the Council.

My Dad used to have the first allotment on the left hand side as you turn in from Portobello Road. I used to love going up when I was young helping out and playing in the shed. :D

Advice please. Hear on the radio that the temperature is set to drop dramatically tonight and there is a risk of frost. Should I put fleece over my young cabbage and broccoli plants or will they be fine?

Well, in the absence of any dire warnings I left them to their own devices and they seem to be doing just fine.

The latest addition to my wee plot is a bootload of bricks I salvaged from my Sis in law's old barn, which was demolished by an artic which took a corner too quickly. I would have happily filled the whole car with more stuff, but Homer wouldn't let me :(

Urg, frost, I think this must mean it's time to bring the avacados indoors and think about planting bulbs...

Was nice to meet Mr Epykat down the allotment today. He showed me his Golden Wonders, but the poor wee things were quite a disappointment. :(

Today's sunshine saw me down the allotment, where I was pleased to see that my onions and garlic are doing very nicely.

I was disappinted, however, to hear that I had missed the BBQ on Sat. Young John, Old John and myself were all looking for some info earlier on the Sat, but assumed it wasn't on as there was no notice up and we hadn't heard anything via email. Still, (the other) John gave me a jar of his homemade raspberry jam today to compensate, which was very nice of him and is better than a hangover, when all is said and done.

I had gone to the allotment to generally potter, chill out and enjoy the fresh air. However, after spending 50 hot and sweaty mins putting together the 'easy assemble' compost bin I bought from Lidl I was cursing loudly and ready to rip my 'bargain' into small shreds with my bare hands.
Maybe I should keep a bottle of brandy in my shed for such emergencies

:-k

It's a common problem when the weather's cold and wet.

Well his Golden Wonders may not have impressed me, but yesterday I sampled more of Mr Epykat's wares and I can highly recommend his Black Satin berries.

His runner beans were also much appreciated. In return, I've promised him some of my garlic plants, as he's told me how much you like fresh garlic Epykat

He assures me that he's got plenty to spare.

Apparently so. He's forever spreading his wares around  . He had most of them in boiling water last night.

Don't get excited, unless you like soup. Anything else is a distinct hit or a miss (more likely a miss). He's good at microwaving mince though :?
