Did anyone see the Frontline Scotland programme?
We did (as our close friend and favourite lawyer was on it), and it was awful. Before they did their weird bit where they had a kid read out what had happened to the elderly folk in the first person, my seven year old asked me why they weren't looking after the older people, and said himself that they have to look after children so why not the elderly?
The programme was particularly damning of the ERI.

One of the pupils at my school was on the programme - doing the 'weird' bit 
I missed part of the programme but it certainly seemed to raise concerns about how hospitals (though the Astley Ainslie came out of it rather well, I recall) and, in particular, their nursing staff care for the elderly. However, I'm wary of jumping to too many conclusions based on anecdotal evidence. Lack of nursing care may not necessarily mean an uncaring staff, but rather a shortage of staff . Abruptness of manner may be an unfortunate by product of working in a stressful environment that demands a level of emotional detachment etc.
Must admit I have admiration for anyone who works in hospitals (particularly the cheery nurse, who continued to be cheerful even after I threw up all over her
). I certainly could not do their job.
There seems to be a different documentary on each night, all claiming to reveal the "big" issues affecting our society. I do hope that they aren't all correct.

Saw b-in-l last weekend - it was great to give him a hug! 
He is still not himself but will chat but not initiate conversation - it will just take time. My mum's friend who was a ward sister said to tell my sister to wipe out the whole summer - still at least he is on the mend.
He went back up to Intensive Care in Paisley to give them some choccies and money for their next night out and the nurses who'd nursed him were gobsmacked at how well he was looking. Just wasn't his time - thankfully.

Saw my brother in law at the weekend.
His work is not being great, 2 months full pay, 2 months half pay and now on Statutory Sick Pay. He is by no means himself and a return to work is will not happen in the forseeable future.
This was a guy so full of enthusiasm for life - life its scary sometimes.
But he is improving, thank god and will continue to do so although slowly.

Brother in law is a lot better (its nearly been a year) but he is not the same person that he was. He was loud and chatty and confident and he is quiet and withdrawn and different - albeit alive now.
Two bizarre things that have happened since he was ill are he is totally addicted to .... soaps
- watching all and reading my niece's soap magazine from cover to cover - he detested soaps before and he has also taken up reading books which he never did before.
We are thankful he is still with us although he is a totally different person.

With enough time and family support I think he will be just fine.
That's some knock to recover from.
When the time comes for him to go back to work, I think it'll be a big step in his recovery.
Who knows if he'll recover from the soap addiction though - maybe not completely - and perhaps with relapses over the years. I dread to think of having to go cold turkey with Neighbours, even though I don't mind missing individual episodes - they are all the same anyway.

he's been back at work for ages now, he works as flooring salesman, covering whole of scotland, we all wonder how he manages the salesman patter when he can't talk to us at length. Its a funny old world.
