care to name some recommended 'one or two other pubs nearby'?
I may be doing some research of my own on saturday night!

Got day off today, so in about 30 minutes it's off to the land of 'Toon,Toon, Black & White Army' for myself and Mrs Pal of Porty this week end. The kids are away staying with friends so it should be one big wine soaked chill out. Can't wait.

Got a very quiet weekend with no plans for going out. Weekend a bit overshadowed by the looming marathon. Have been invited to a breakfast on Sat morning to watch the lions- thats about it.

At least you've been invited over to someone else's for a rugby watching breakfast. I've got folk coming to our house for the game with instructions to keep a plentiful supply of bacon rolls flowing, then a visit to St John's School Fete to spend lots of money on the tombola in a vain effort to win a bottle of wine.
Sunday will be spent cheering a triumphant (I hope

) Homer over the finishing line, followed by a celebratory/consolatory drink or two. I would cheer on the last of the mysterious relay team too, but as they have been so shy and retiring I don't know who/what to look out for

The rest of the relay team are POL unknowns, which doesn't mean that they are bad people.
I didn't know you have Sky!!! Could be very useful for the 3 saturdays, beginning on Jun 25th.

We shame
Had I been fitter

, I might have entered into the marathon, did lots of middle to long distance running in my youth (OK before
you say it - it was not yesterday), but we will be rooting for you and Mr. Marya (Hommer). Good luck.

I suggest you get your fortune told, for a paltry sum. As I understand it a reticent POLer is the gifted palmist. Should be rather amusing...

And before you ask, no, it's not me.

We'll probably head down to the Prom at some point to cheer folks on. What time do you reckon you'll be along guys?

The race starts at 9.00 Sandra but the relay starts at 10.00 so it depends a bit on who you want to cheer on. Get in position at the bottom of Bath Street (the 21 mile stage) from say 10.35-10.40 onwards to catch the (very!) elite runners in the individual race. The relay runners (and other ordinary mortals) will obviously be later!
The route goes along the prom then doubles back (at the pumping station) along Joppa Road , Abercorn Terrace, the High Street and then up Brighton Place so anyone viewing along those streets has a little bit more of a lie in

The Lions lose. Not a good start to what is already a bleak weekend. the only thing keeping me going at the moment is the thought of a post "run" drink at the Dalraida.

Having spent most of my Friday evenings since the middle of March sanding, filling, papering, painting and even kitchen fitting, tonight I'm off to strut my funky stuff at some disco thingy in what used to be the Coach and Horses (now has some highly dubious name apparently).

Then tomorrow it's back to sanding, filling............

Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

It's called Party Planet now and judging by the mainly female clientele I've seen coming and going from it, you're about 35 years too old for the place.
You might pick up a few new moves from the young 'uns and, if you behave, you'll get a party bag on your way out.

Don't know about that, Foxy but judging the body language of those around him he had never heard of deodorant.

Yeah, I read the Man in the High Castle so long ago now I can't remember a thing about it now. I needed someone to explain the ending to me.

Can't remember if there was a butler in the High Castle or not but if there was then he surely did it.

Finished it a few weeks ago, and 'sort of' enjoyed it but, yeah, confusing as hell. Read somewhere that Philip K Dick was writing a sequel that would continue the story (as I think it needed) but 'gone and died' before he could

It's a zen ending apparently.
Just finished TMITHC and started "Time Out Of Joint" but made the mistake of spoiling it for myself by skimming through the PKD reader in Borders ("Inside The Mind Of PKD") to the bit about it.
I don't mind being left wondering. In the book I read the bit about that and the author says that at the end of the book, Juliana leaves Abdensen's house with PKD running after her - probably trying to work out what the ending was too!!

Thanks for that, Dada and Bearcub. Glad it wasn't just me that was left wondering.
I'll post my thoughts on the book on the appropriate thread later.

What thread is that? Book of the month?
Can we have a PKD thread? Help?
