The one good thing about the rain is that it really makes the garden grow. Ours looks like a jungle at the moment but it's lovely. I went out last night when the rain finally stopped and gave all the baby snails on my roses a good talking to

Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

You have much to learn when Emily turns 5

Can't take your holidays during term time as it is frowned upon and you can't take them in holiday time because the Tour operators whack their prices up and you can't afford it! Then, you wait until your children leave school and you no longer have these restraints - and you go and get a job in a school - back to square one

Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Let's look at the evidence. The missing shoe. The painful stooped posture of the parent. And later on, the hideous shreiking noise made by the latest live frog the cat has brought home to torment. Who lives in a house like this? David, it's over to you.....

I just opened a bottle of beer (Hoegaarden) and put out 3 saucers for the little nippers. At least they can get tipsy on a quality Belgian white before I put them in the bin.

Mine are thrown straight into the Figgate Burn, where they provide a tasty treat for the small trout, ducks and occasional swan. There must be a huge pile of shells by now, which should confuse future archaeologists. Or they might evolve into river snails.
Because they feast at night you need to go out under cover of darkness with a torch. I'm on the war path at the moment becasue they have just scoffed all the basil.
I considered a hedgehog (bit unfair to keep one in a small garden) and frogs, but throwing them in the burn seems to be the simplest solution.

I don't think it would be fair on Oscar to have a hedehog, nor fair on the hedgehog to have to put up with a 1 year old who thinks he's king of the jungle. Thanks for the point about night-time. Might have me a snail bbq in the wee small hours, or something.

I've just come in from the garden and have disposed of about a dozen snails, my method isn't very nice,I can't bring myself to crush them so I throw them against a wall and they smash themselves
Unfortunately my frogs don't eat them, I think they are too big. They(frogs) do eat slugs though so I go out to my front garden and collect as many as I can then feed them to whichever frog is out and about. A dozen is the most devoured in one session by Bella along with about four worms. I am out with my torch most nights, just as well I have rechargable batteries.

Throwing them from the garden onto the main road is a good way of having a 3rd party crush them. After all, you can always blame the cars or the 15 people who were sitting on the 26 bus.

I tried throwing two large slugs into the fish pond last year. They put up such a struggle, quickly learned to swim and crawled out

. I felt so rotten that I've never done it again so we just have to live with them. I do put down pellets though because if I don't actually see them dying I can live with myself
