they could've picked some nicer sounds but if you just have one long line across the bottom and a few little angled lines scattered about you can get it to play little tunes - and get hypnotised at the same time!!!

Have you tried the obvious stuff? Check your 'Sounds and Audio Devices' properties. If you have a 'Volume' icon in your taskbar, double-click it and check that nothing is muted. Nothing to do with the link anyway.
