Children's Tax Credits

Post by seanie » 15 Jan 2009, 21:09

Something that may be of interest.

Before Child Tax Credits there was something called Children's Tax Credits that, rather cunningly, the Government didn't publicise. There's a deadline at the end of the month for backdated claims for 2002/3. There are links below to HM Revenue & Customs & the relevant form. It's pretty straightforward and all you have to do is send it to your Tax Office.

Any claim needs to be made by the end of this month but the form's very straightforward. Might be worth telling anyone who;

Has a child born between 6th April 1986 and 5th April 2003.

The child lived with them for all or part of 2002/2003.

They worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002/2003.

We were put on to this just recently and are in the process of filling in the form just now. Not sure if we will get anything but it's worth a try.

If you still have your P60 from April 2003 there is apparently an easy way to check. If your tax code ends in an H or a T then you have already had the allowance.

Failing that, you could just call HMRC directly on 0845 302 1409 and ask them to check for you.

Sadly, we have already had ours but as teddygirl says, it's worth a try.
