Thats correct wangi, there are also overall changes to the 15, 21, 26 and 42 bus routes. The 12 no longer serving the extremities of Portobello is the biggest change for portobello but according to the two (out of a couple of hundred employed by Lothian Buses) drivers I was speaking to through the week the section between Porty and Leith Links isnt used much so presumably wont be missed by many.

I never got a 12 so dont know personally how busy it is.

I was a bit more concerened about the N26 changes but I think im right in saying the Council gave Lothian Buses some more cash to keep the N26 going for a bit longer (this was the same for a couple of routes I think).

I'm very annoyed at this:
42 Revised timetable with evening & Sunday journeys running between Silverknowes and Bristo Square. Bristo Square to King’s Road journeys are withdrawn due to low passenger numbers.
I play tennis on the south side of town, and one of my two buses (21 being the other) to get home is now not available. I don't see the point in it terminating at Bristo Square?? Where does it go from there? I will end up having to get a 49 and go through town.....

I think I also heard 26 evening frequency reduced from every 10 to every 15 mins which is not good.

The point over the N26 - no reason to withdraw it - just make it less frequent / charge more - it's usually a busy bus & people will use it if it works out as less than a taxi...

A few more changes in the pipeline to bus services that serve Porty:
26 Clerwood - Tranent: Frequency between Clerwood & Eastfield reduced from every 5 to every 7/8 minutes.

15/A Penicuik - Tranent: Eastfield to Tranent withdrawn.

42 Silverknowes to Kings Road: Frequency reduced from 20 to 30 minutes. Service divereted to Gas HQ. Will operate direct Via Crewe Road South omitting Porterfield Road.
There are also changes to a few other services:

1
7
33
10
12
X12
23
27
X48
44
17
22
45

Clarification: This relates to a story in the Evening News on 20/11/08 and [the proposed changes] are in addition to the changes made on the 5th October.

According to the story in the paper the changes havnt been made yet. The planned service alterations are being submitted to the traffic commissioner this week but thats really just a formality.

26 moving to every 7/8 minutes is a significant drop in service - 37.5%, if you assume the 8 mins figure. That's enough of a change to be really noticeable; a 26 can be crowded enough as it is.

Can we pass comment to the Fat Controller of buses? Who is it?

So, when will Lothian Buses be reducing their standard fare back down to £1? After all the rise to 1.10 was explained as due to fuel rises; and those have fallen recently...

can't say my diesel seems any cheaper though - petrol has gone down a lot and diesel only a tiny bit.

I couldnt see that bit in the online EN

I'm worried about cutting back the 42 in the morning, as it is it gets crowded with school kids going to Holyrood.
Wonder how long until some are left behind

Personally I would be amazed if they announced they were cutting their fares, regardless of the reason given for the increase at the time.
