Housing Market

Post by sunnyporty » 12 Jun 2008, 13:10

Heard that the Housing Market in Edinburgh is doing just fine...WELL ITS NOT DOWN HERE IN CUMBRIA :x My house has been up for sale for 4 months and not a single viewer - The only consolation is the house we have gone for has been taken of the market as it is someone we know and they are keeping it for us - Does no-one up North want a lovely holiday home near the Lake District :) :)

Housing market has really slowed down n EDI. The ESPC is chocker. I'm selling my mums house and its a similar story to yours.

Some properties are still attrcting big money over the asking, there was a monster a couple of weeks ago.

This one is expected to go for 50% over the asking price. (A registration box will open just close it to reveal)

We were dead lucky to sell very quickly just recently. Reckon we missed the slump by weeks.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

I think they are referring to house prices, which seem to be quite stable in Edinburgh, but the housing market is flooded at the moment.

So when people decide they really need to sell the prices will start going fixed and then drop. But when people start taking their houses off the market, i.e to continue renting or to live in them for a while it should pick up again.

It's like the petrol thing a few weeks back, people panic, when t here really is no need, this accumulates, there is a wee hiccup in the market, then it recovers.

The main problem seems to have been due to Estate agents and surveyors over valuing the properties in the first place, not so much of a problem in Scotland because of the lack of estate agents in the whole selling scheme (although we still get charge estate agency fees, funny that).
And surveyors ask you how much was bid on the property when they walk in, then they just say "okay, then I value this house at the same" Not really endearing of the profession, but at least it keeps prices in the range of what the bidder can afford.

Sorry not that one :( Mine is in a village and overlooks Skiddaw and the faraway hills :) :) One estate agent said a couple of years ago we would have put it on the market for £15,000 more than we are asking for it now.Its very old with beams - can be seen on Rightmove.com ( hint hint   )
