Edinburgh Marathon 2008
Edinburgh Marathon 2008
Well after last years stint at the relay I'd vowed never to run again... Just so damn boring. But my department at work was foolish enough to again find 8 people willing to form two teams. This time it is for Macmillan Cancer Support: http://justgiving.com/cslfirefly
Of course, people drop out... And I'm now in the team for this year. The marathon is in less than two weeks now. Over the past couple of weeks I've stepped up the normal cycle & swim on the way to work as a means for increasing general fitness. But course running uses totally different muscles - that was really brought home at the weekend when I took part in the Pittencrieff Park 5K in Dunfermline. Came in at 29 mins which isn't too bad given it was the first time i had run since last years marathon relay (absolutely no training) and the course was more like hill running!
So this week and next is going to see a lot of running...
Anyone else running this year? Homer?

I suppose the swim has the benefit of removing any possibility of prom-related cycling hassle. Do you just carry the bike above your head until you get to the cat and dog home? And isn't the sea a bit cool yet?wangi wrote: Over the past couple of weeks I've stepped up the normal cycle & swim on the way to work
Every Day Counts

Homer is running again this year and will be most appreciative of any support, as he makes his way round the course. His number is 213.wangi wrote:

PS
He says he'll beat the finish time for your entire team Wangi. Perhaps I shouldn't have told him you had cycled past him on your commute to work
How's the training going Wangi?
Homer's training was going fine until Wednesday night and the small matter of a late night sesh following the European cup final. He assures me, however, that he will be forfeiting his usual Friday pint and has given me a range of suitable carb laden recipes which I can cook for him today and tomorrow

Well I'll try and adopt Homer's regime and forego the drinks tonight too! I'm resting up on the running - I've run more than the distance I'll be running a few times this past week. A few more swims though...Marya wrote:How's the training going Wangi?

As to bettering Homer's time...
Thanks for the sponsorship.

Congratulations to anyone who did the race on Sunday and battled against that gusty wind.
Wangi looked very relaxed after the race and, despite the weather, ran his leg a minute faster than last year. (Hope you eventually managed to find Jenny in that crowd, Lee.)
Homer also ran a new PB of 2:51:01 and was 3rd in his age category, so I'm very proud of him.
