Portobello Nurseries

Post by littlemamma » 12 Dec 2007, 21:48

Hi everyone,
I registered for this forum ages ago but only just getting round to posting.

I was wondering if any parents out there with children between ages 1 and 2 years old could offer their personal recommendations on good nurseries or not so good experiences of nurseries in portobello. I am just about to start visiting some of them but think parent recommendations are probably the most useful.

If you don't feel it's appropriate to respond on the forum please PM me instead.

Thanks

I always think a good sign is a place that retains staff. Our daughter went to Brighton Nursery for five years. She was very happy there and the staff were excellent. Before they moved to larger premises on the High Street it was very much a family atmosphere, although I believe there has been an influx of children since Hamilton House closed.

Trusting someone else to look after your child is a huge step for any parent. My advice is to forget the mission statements and glossy brochures and go with your instinct.

My son goes to Brighton Nursery, as did my daughter.Since the move it does feel less homely, maybe because it's no longer run out of someones home! It's still very good though and the feeling is very relaxed with ample areas both inside and out for the little tykes to run about.

Question Bob, why call Kelly a key-worker? I've never heard that phrase used in the nursery before.

I'm not sure that 'key-worker' is the term they used within the nursery but Kelly was assigned as Emily's main carer from day one and remained so throughout the five years she was there. I think that continuity of care is important for young children. Is Kelly still around? We must pay a visit sometime.

I can also recommend Brighton Nursery. Both our kids (3 and 1) go there at the mo. Jenny & staff are fantastic.

She is indeed. She's now manager, considering the amount of time she's given to Brighton it's well deserved.
