Holidays

Post by sunnyporty » 14 Oct 2006, 23:01

Just been to a little cottage near Kingairloch for a week. 8) 8) Weather was not bad at all.
Had our very own Autumn Watch ( anyone watched that GREAT )Went to sleep at night listening to the stags roaring,it made a change from cows and sheep. We watched them on the other side of the Loch strutting their stuff ... magic ...It was so dark at night I had to poke myself in the eye to see if I was awake or not.. honest! I thought it was dark here ,cause there are only 2 street lights down my road and the last one is outside my house after that you have to rely on the sensor lights on the last few houses past me.
Anyway Mr S and myself had a lovely week staying on Planet Highland. Its another life where there are no shops unless you travel for 2 hours and there is no phone signal so no-one can contact you. We did have a TV though and although it was tempting to leave it off, we relented and watched Autumn Watch , oh and did you see what happened in Corrie .ONLY JOKING was out walking most of the time  Cant see the point in going on holiday in Summer its the Autumn for me from now on.
theres no such thing as bad weather only the wrong clothes

Autumn is our favourite time too! With all this global warming, it's quite mild and best of all quiet roads, places to visit etc. The last two years we've stayed in a cottage near Haltwhistle - although the night we were directly under the flight path for jet fighters on their training from Spadeadam was NOT qiuet (although quite thrilling  ).

Has the climate in Edinburgh changed much? I moved up 9 years ago and was told about the freezing snowy winters. I can only remember one or two really cold snaps since arriving. By all accounts I just missed them. Is this true?

Yes, Gilo, we used to have "proper" winters with SNOW lying for days inches thick, but not for more than at least 10 years now.

About 5 years ago it snowed on Christmas Day and didn't stop, we went sledging and snowballing. It was only 50 miles along the M8 too.

Been wondering how to persuade Homer that we need a return trip to Orlando. We didn't have enough time to see Universal studios last time, but he's been unenthusiastic, to say the least, when I mention the subject. Then I realised that there's a Space Shuttle launch scheduled for next year. Guess who now thinks Florida is a great idea ? Only drawback is that we might have to share our villa with every male he knows......
