Inappropriate names

Post by wangi » 28 Mar 2007, 22:55

Perhaps something which has been brought up before... But, lets do it again...

In a very serious article about AIDS/HIV prevention in Africa:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6502855.stm
WHO agrees HIV circumcision plan
International experts have backed the use of male circumcision in the prevention of HIV.

The World Health Organization and UNAIDS said circumcision should be added to current interventions to reduce the spread of HIV.
...
Foreskin cells are thought to be more vulnerable to HIV infection
...
But then:
Kevin De Cock, director of HIV/AIDS at the World Health Organization said: "The recommendations represent a significant step forward in HIV prevention."
It cannot be for real... (and encuse me for circumventing the profanity filter...)

But then again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_De_Cock

Does raise a shameful snigger, though! I often wonder which of our names raises sniggers outwith these shores. The only one I can think of at the mo is 'persil' being French for 'parsley'.

I used to use hibiscrub in the lab years ago, never thought about the name.
Wonder what the maroon supporters use.

A BBC article on breast enhancement surgery stated :
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps) said people should not feel pressurised.
