Does anyone use the Brunstane to Waverley train service? Is it any good ie reliable, safe etc?

Yep. Have used it many times with no problems. Can be busy during rush-hour though.

Station is unmanned - so a consideration if using late at night.

I've not used it much recently... But did go through a spell of using it fairly regularly for a bit last year. It was normally pretty good, except for the 1800 (or is that 1820 or something else) train from Waverley to Newcraighall. The train comes in from Livingston and splits, and was often late. I don't know if that's still the case.

Also no problem getting space to fling a bike on.

If I ever need to get to the Gyle or Edinburgh Park for work it's a godsend.

It does have a ticket machine now though which means that you can (possibly have to?) buy tickets before getting on the train - thus allowing connections with trains at Waverley that aren't actually advertised as such because you need to walk 'briskly' to get from the arrival platform to any other one in time.

I love the transition from home(ish) to the city centre in 7 mins

'briskly' = be located at the front of the train and then run when you get off.
