All this talk of death has made me recall two strange mug-related incidents which still from time to time plague my conscience.
When Charles & Lady Di got married, everybody at school got a free commemorative mug. I treasured mine for many years, and it accompanied me from city to city, until one day while living in Camberwell, south London, I dropped it on the floor, and it shattered into many tiny pieces.
The next day it was announced on the news that Charles & Lady Di were splitting, their marriage as irreparable as my mug...
When the Pope (John Paul II) visited England (in 1982 or '83 I think), everyone at our school was given a commemorative mug. I treasured mine for many years, and it accompanied me from city to city, until one day while living in Portobello, East Edinburgh, I dropped it on the floor, and it shattered into many tiny pieces.
Within 2 or maybe 3 years of that date, the pope died...
Spooky eh?
The only 'person' mug that I have these days is Brian Wilson one (see cup of coffee thread). I am being very careful with it.
I wonder if anybody else has any 'mug of death' related anecdotes?

Not quite the same kind of 'mug' but I saw Jock Stein on the telly one night and said 'He's heart attack material if ever I saw it' and an hour later he had a heart attack and died. I also once made an effigy out of a paper napkin of somebody I didn't like at work and wished something bad and two days later she had severe diarrhoea, so I tried a bit harder and the week after that she broke her collarbone in a car accident.Nelson Hatstand wrote:I wonder if anybody else has any 'mug of death' related anecdotes?
