Portobello Campaign For....

Post by bearcub » 28 Jul 2007, 19:23

Enough of this negativity crap, let's start campaigns (or anti-campaigns for things that have beat us to it...) that you would like to see in Portobello. I'll start you off with...

PCFFF - Portobello Campaign For Funfair Flats - the Funfair (not the 'Castle' one) is an eyesore, lets get rid of it...the 5-storey plan that was put forward a few months ago is a good starting point.

PCFHC - Portobello Campaign For Hovercraft Crossings - this is a chance for this stagnating (let's be honest) area to get back on the map, and the Hovercraft could be the start of it. Why not make Portobello Edinburgh's "Gateway to Fife" and campaign for a permanent Hovercraft crossing to Fife (Kirkcaldy or elsewhere). Let's face it, the Tram line is going to happen, so why not use this to push for a Portobello line to be next on the agenda....a lot easier if there's a thriving Forth crossing(s) to be catered for....

With you all the way on this one Bearcub, way to much nonsensical negativity emanating from Portobello. PMAG are not totally against flats on the funfair sitem, you understand. They just want the building to be not as long as proposed and any flats must not cast a shadow on the prom. You know the way that biggest and probably tallest open air swimming pool in Europe used to do until about 20 years ago? Meanwhile many of this mob love the shadows that PHS casts up Duddingston Road way. In fact they are shadow worshipers wjen it suits them.

Those of you who do not attend CC meetings ( that doesn't include the major dudes in PMAG) may not be aware that the developer has given up a part of the land that he owns to widen the prom. This strip runs the entire length of the development. Noone is ever going to adulise property developers but these ones have attended a few CC meetings and seem as a reasonable bunch as one could expect.

PCFPB - Portobello Campaign For Protest Bureaucracy

Protest group which busies itself with internal struggle. A Darwinian, Malthusian, Kafka-esque and above-all Stalinist group which is far more concerned with nit-pickery and skull-duggery amongst its members than any actual protest. Hates the PPBC.
