Noticed white box on lampost on the Prom, at the monument at the foot of Marlborough Street.
Looks like cctv camera.
Has it been there long and I've not noticed?
Wonder if they can see me hanging out all the odd socks on the washing line.
Oh the shame!
( its not that my washing machine eats the socks but my son insists on wearing unmatched socks and occasionally unmatched shoes. His PE teacher ticked him off for having odd socks, my lads solution is to wear the regulation school PE socks but to draw lines on one leg under the socks

)

Thanks for the offer Porty but we've got loads in the house.
For every odd pair he's got another pair like it!
Think it's not the socks but my son that's odd ( but we love him

)
I'll take a walk later and see if there's any more cameras around. Meant to do it earlier but been busy.
So far today I've dropped 2 daughters off at diffrent locations, taken some spyware off the computer, unblocked a toilet and done the washing. I think a second cup of coffee for me today

We must have the other half of your thoosands then

. Where do they go????? I used to blame my daughter but she's been gone for two years now and I still only seem to have 2 'pairs'. I've even had to come on holiday with a pair that aren't a pair - albeit they are both pink. I've even tried only buying the boys black socks so that they always have a 'pair' but that only works when Epykitten the Horrible remembers to put at least some of them back in the wash. Otherwise they run out and they're back to wearing non pairs. I think there should be government funded research.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

No, I know where the teaspoons go. They go in the bucket with the yogurt pots (I've retrieved loads that way - you should try it). I've also found the hiding place of the missing tumblers. They huddle together at the back of Epykitten's bed

Did you ever go to the Lost Sock Diner at the bottom of Broghton Street, its now an iIalian. All the tables, chairs, wall decorations and some of the table decorations were made of lost socks.

Could you take your singles along and see if you could match them up? A sort of Lonely Hearts Club for socks.

Saw another cctv near Towerbank
I think the socks go the same way as pens. Can never find one when I need them but know I've bought hundreds
I used to have a large bag of unmatched socks and every so often, after going radiator fishing, we'd get the whole family together and pair socks up. Amazing how many shades of almost black there are!
Who says we dont know how to entertain ourselves
(Radiator fishing uses a wire coat hanger to guddle about the back and retrieve fallen objects)

We went one better and retrieved 6 pairs of very large nylon knickers in pastel colours from the back of the hot water tank in our new house. They WERE NOT mine I hasten to add

. No socks though.

Noticed men up the lamp posts in last couple of weeks and never thought anything of it then at tea time, on way back from dragging hubby along to see hovercraft, we noticed the CCTV.
Wow - that explains why there have been no cars vandalised, windows smashed or yobbos in Bath Street on Friday or Sat night, Rapunzel you know what I mean. Thought the bus had maybe broken down from Niddrie or the usual posse had found some other street to plague.

A lot of the "damage" was caused by
all age groups at
all times of day and night, it has to said. The middle pyramid became dangerous once its inards were exposed!

I'm sure it wasnt just neds that destroyed the pyramids.
I meant it was a shame no one could have been sent to tell the vandals not to do it!

A lot of visitors, tourists and locals honestly thought they were there to play on and were pretty embarrassed when they knocked sandbags off as they climbed down again!

From what I read, I think the artist himself expected them to be played on and not just to be admired from a distance.
However, the Pyramids lasting 6 months was probably an overly optimistic evaluation, 6 weeks is even looking shaky!

Meanwhile, back on the subject of CCTV on the Prom, I have made some enquiries and can report the following.
The new boxes that have suddenly appeared, six in total, are indeed CCTV cameras. They have been installed on a temporary basis for evaluation purposes and will in all likelihood be removed within the next 24 hours.
These cameras are a little different from the ones we are accustomed to. For one thing, they can be dialled into wirelessly and can be powered from any suitable lampost. This means that they can be quickly, cheaply and easily installed and deployed in various locations as required.
The cameras are heading for Gorgie next but it is anticipated that they will be back in Portobello in September for a couple of months. If they prove to be successful then we can expect to see more of this type of mobile CCTV surveillance throughout the city.

At least they are trying it out but a longer trial would have been better before September as most of the problems occur over the summer months in my view.

Didnt deter a whole heep of neds gathering on the prom last night
I dont object to them per se but was sitting at my open window reading and half watching Angel when I heard a couple of pings, looked out and was just missed by grinning ned firing air pistol, which really looked like a gun.. and aimed at me
Scary.
