My daughter, who is about 37 weeks pregnant, called me the night before last and asked casually if I was busy. "Why?" I asked. "Well, promise not to get angry with me but I've done something silly and need to go to the hospital".
Turns out she had electrocuted herself and when she called the hospital they told her to drink lots of cold water and to eat some ice cream to make sure the baby was moving. The baby hadn't moved for an hour, so off we went to RIE maternity where they put a monitor thing on to Anna and hey presto, the heartbeat was good and strong and Anna was having small contractions apparently. Anna had 2 white marks on her fingers where the electricity had gone in but nothing too serious. The midwife went off to see a doctor with the heartbeat printout and came back a while later saying that all was well with the baby but having checked with A & E she needed to see Anna's feet. Anna took her shoes off and showed her the soles of her feet, and there, very clearly, were 2 corresponding black dots- exit wounds apparently. It was decided that the shock had been a big one and Anna had to have a ECG of her heart. 20 minutes later, we were still waiting and bored and started to discuss electric shocks and exit wounds and all things medical. I apologised for not having given her more sympathy and asked to see the exit wounds again. She took off her shoes and rubbed her finger over the marks, and they came away in her hand. They were bits of dirt. I'm still sore with laughing.

Talking of hospital visits, not long after having my only child (never lonely) I had a rotten cold and was fed up with it never going away, so rather than inhaling menthol crystals I had a faster way to get rid of my lurgy. So I runs a bath tips the entire pot of crystals then gets in bath, sits there for a wee while out I get, started to feel unwell quickly, so after telling the husband I phoned my mum, explains what I'd done, see tells be to phone the doctor (all this before NHS24). Now I'm starting to worry, so after telling the girl not to laugh and her telling me not to worry as it wouldn't be something she hadn't heard before, she falls about laughing saying I was right she'd never heard it before, anyone one very fast doctor later it turned out the crystals had lowered my blood pressure and thats why I wasn't feeling well, 1 jag later and away to bed with hot water bottles, needless to say the following day I still had the bloody lurgy.
