Labour lose Edinburgh and Scotland!

Post by Dadaist » 04 May 2007, 20:18

CEC results just in - Larry The Lamb is back on the trains, although his lasting legacy of naming us "G&TT" will surely be enough of a memorial to his political career.

Phony Tony's poisoned legacy. I remember Gogs Brown being asked once if he would have acted the same way as Blair over Iraq had he been in charge - he answered "Yes" (Nick Robinson - "Because he had to") and must be hating Blair even more now.

What will happen to CEC - Lib/Lab coalition?

Liberal minority rule?

Anyone know the official honeymoon period?

When exactly do our newly elected politicians go from faithful public servants with a mandate to self-serving incompetent swine on the take?

I just thought it'd be handy to put in my diary.

As soon as the electorate realise that they are no better at fixing the potholes than the last lot, never mind delivering independence. I would give them six months but perhaps that's being a bit generous. Knives are sharpening as we speak.

It depends on how cynical you are. I'm genuinely undecided as to the point at which they become corrupt swine from the following :

1. When the returning officer says the voting figure which causes the candidate's supporters to cheer.

2. When the returning officer says "I therefore declare" the name of the person who was just elected.

It's much nicer in reverse though. I now like Lawrence Marshall, cos he's just a hardworking and honest bloke with a day job and bills to pay - and I'm more than happy to forgive his Labour Party membership : at least it shows he's interested in politics and he may move to the left one day, you never know.

Truly cynical, which is why I agree with you.

btw check out this - albeit wiki so could contain non-accurate statements - piece about the '79 group :

There are a couple of names in there that I had no idea were in said group - but I knew about Eck.
