Nats set to take the Parly?
Nats set to take the Parly?
I can remember when the Provost was a Nat - that Irons guy - and I know they'd had the odd council up north and that, but one of the tabs today has some leaked report giving the Hadrian's Wall Posse control of the Parly.
Is that on the cards?
Be nice to get shot of Neo-Labour, yes, and be nice to get shot of the old WMDs, but the whole flag-waving bit always makes me suspicious.
I don't mind a bit of '79 group, but you won't see me singing Flower Of this or Scotland the what.
I'm a cosmopolitan.
I need to find out who the shadow health dude is. He'll need to be good at sums and/or doublespeak.

In thie weeks PM question time an MP, whose name I didn't catch asked Mr Blair:
" What contingency plans do you intend to put in place for England, Wales and Ireland to cope with the huge influx of immigrants from a failed independent Scotland?"
Mr Blair took the opportunity to reinforce the folly of the proposed 3% tax to be introduced by the SNP.

There was a PMQ where this backbench Neo-Labour clone asked Tone a question but messed up the delivery because he read out the answer at the same time, leaving Blair with no script to read.
I think it was still Walworth Road handing out the questions then - think this was before Millbank though I might be wrong.
Not that Phony can't ad-lib though.
Porty - which charismatic leader do you think has more civilian blood on his hands - Idi Amin or Tony Blair?

I don't know much about Amin. I do accept that Blair took us to War and many civilians have perished but I don't know the breakdown between who the US killed, who the Iraqis killed etc. I don't want to commit myself .Dadaist wrote:

What do you think of the notion that a 3p in the pound income tax could replace council charge?
Turning the tables....Porty wrote:" What contingency plans do you intend to put in place for England, Wales and Ireland to cope with the huge influx of immigrants from a failed independent Scotland?"
Alex Salmond wrote:"There may be some doom-mongers who think that England is too lacking in resources - too poor without Scottish oil - to be a successful independent country. But I disagree. The people of England are just as capable, just as able as any other nation to thrive with self-government."
Please can I read this question literally? Idi Amin was never slow to actually pull the trigger himself so it is fair to say that he is the one who has/had more blood on his hands. Just like every other leader since democracy was invented, Tony Blair gives orders to fight from the safety and comfort of his office. Would you argue that Joe Stalin was a better sadistic dictator than Adolf Hitler was coz Joe was on our side? I am against the war too but it still doesn't stop me from looking forward to your next ridiculous comparison.Dadaist wrote:which charismatic leader do you think has more civilian blood on his hands - Idi Amin or Tony Blair?
Prom cycling for all.
All countries choose their friends and their enemies according to who fits where at any given time. It suited Britain and America to court Stalin to help defeat the immediate threat at the time but, as we all know, both countries were equally afraid of him when he didn't retreat from the European countries he had 'liberated'. It wasn't that long ago that poor old Saddam was great pals with Dubya's predecessors and I've no doubt that President Thingy in Iran would be a new best friend if it suited the Land of the Free. Oops, I've just remembered that this thread is about the Nats winning the election so it just shows how easy it is to digress. Having said that, if Dubya's advisors told him it was against the interests of the USA for Scotland to become independent you could bet your cowboy boots that he would find an excuse to come to our aid and give us the gift of freedom, and then steal our oil.
A friend is just an enemy you haven't offended yet.

I'm just having trouble reconciling exactly when you think "Britain and America" courted Stalin to "help defeat" the "immediate threat".
There are so many shifting loyalties in the whole period, and this statement is so vague, that I'm having trouble pinning it down between the time that Soviet aid to fighters against Franco started, and the opening of the long-awaited fronts in the west.
If it's Tehran you're thinking of (late 43), I wouldn't have written that statement - in my eyes it's the wrong way round in terms of who courted who, it's open to misinterpretation in terms of "help" implying who exactly beat the Nazis (who were being pushed back in the east by then), and confusing in terms of what you mean by "immediate".
So yeah - when exactly do you mean?
