Parks Spring Clean

Post by Maria » 26 Mar 2006, 11:00

Although it looked quite a daunting task when we first assembled yesterday morning for the annual BRA Spring Clean, within the space of two hours a mountain of bin bags full of litter had been collected and both Rosefield and Brighton Parks were left looking much sprucer.

Very many thanks to the 'usual suspects' who faithfully turned out for what is always a fun event and to those new neighbours who also joined in. It is a great opportunity to help clean up our environment and have a blether or two along the way.

A few POL regulars were spotted; dc cairns, a veteran of these events, turned up with her special 'executive litter picker' while Seanie donned waders and single-handedly cleared the Figgate Burn of such exotic items such as carrier bags full of dog poo. Groups of kids gleefully competed to see who could find the most tin cans and lots of other folk, Homer included, limboed under prickly bushes to reach that last plastic fork or crisp packet.

A very special thanks, however, must go to Becky for organising the whole thing. The bubbles were an inspired addition this year Becky! :flower:

I'll give Brighton an extra special look over tomorrow morning Marya on my way to work and make sure you've not missed anything  . Well done!
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

If you spot anything Epykat, just let Porty know. I'm sure he'll be delighted to make up for his absence on Sat..
I'm going to keep a special watch to see who has been dumping empty Elsan bottles (and perhaps more *shudder*) from a chemical toilet. I have my suspicions but couldn't possibly voice them in public

It is that time of the year once more. Yes, today is the annual Brightons and Rosefield Residents Association's Parks Spring Clean.

It lasts from 11 - 1 p.m. and we tackle litter in Brighton and Rosefield Parks. The council provide bin bags, gloves, litter pickers and even waders, so come along and join us for what is always a worthwhile and fun task.

Meet at 11 o'clock today at the entrance to Rosefield Park. There will be free drinks and snacks for the kids.

Many thanks to all of you who came along yesterday and helped clean up the parks. We had a really good turn out and I enjoyed catching up with several folk I hadn't seen in a while. Although it seemed a daunting task at first, we were all done and dusted by 12.30 with a real sense of a job well done.

Special thanks goes to Becky for once again organising us all and sourcing all those goodies for the kids.
