It's a tie at the moment between chips and jacket spuds. Although a clear majority of proud, historic and warlike Scots support the potato - clearly a mandate for this being put on the plate.

Trust me there is nothing like a jacket spud whipped up with cream, drizzled with butter, then smothered in sour cream and chives, bacon bits and 3 cheeses, with just a smidging of salt.

none of those unhealthy greasy chips for us
