Killer Whales

We all have our irrational little fears and mine happens to be killer whales. I have never seen "Free Willy" and I've come to the conclusion (however misplaced) that I was possibly a seal in a former life. You can imagine I was a bit alarmed to hear some had been spotted as close to me as the Forth Road Bridge

. If anyone happens to see one anywhere near Portobello Beach please let me know pronto

Stick to dry land and you should be safe, Epykat. I can assure you I've never seen an Orca popping into any of the shops in the High Street.

The only cetaceans I've seen near Porty Beach were some porpoises/dolphins a few years back . It was lovely to watch them leaping out the water and belting along, it was a foggy summers day. July 27th, but cant remember the year.
There was one stranded wee harbour porpoise in the 80's.

The Clangers used to see pods of whales travelling past the Isle of May when my mum lived in the East Neuk of Fife but they didn't seen to venture up the Forth ( the whales not the Clangers )

There were some dolphins last year just out from Porty beach. Hopefully they might return this summer

Ooo, rats, I missed them.
I remember the pod that came along that time in July as my mum was down and it was her birthday,just can't remember the year, we tried taking some pics but it was too foggy .

It was a glorious day last year, about 9.00 am on a Saturday morning when I saw them. I just about killed myself(and the dog) running along to Sickers house to get Mrs S. Sicker came down with his binoculars but by this time they were going further out. We still got a good sighting of them though.

That's what I thought until I saw a programme where a killer whale came right out of the water and took a seal off the sand

Have the Forth whales left yet? I've got my underwater camera ready now

I'll wait till the summer for beachy marine life if I have to..

I suspect Inchkeith Island is home to all sorts of wildlife that escaped from Porty Zoo. Secret penguin colonies in the old ammo bunkers, slowly mutating , and one of them made a break for freedom but went the wrong way up the Forth
