Has anyone here been there?

The road looks amazing to drive, and the views are meant to be awesome. This is one of my "to visit places" for 2007.

I've been. It's a weird, fantastic place.

The drive is mental - pretty much all single track I seem to remember, twistier and turnier than the pyrenees or any other such rubbish, and lots of it with a massive drop to one side. We stayed at a lighthouse somewhere near there, accessible only by an unlisted and utterly bonkers 'road', and I've got friends who have stayed at the Applecross Inn which is pretty good apparently.

If you get the chance, go.

This is probably my most favourite place in Scotland. It's dramatic, romantic, beautiful and wild.

If you've never been, make an effort this summer and go up the hill, them come down through the glen. It's just fabulous.

That looks stunning there too. Spoilt for choice in Scotland tbh!

We're planning a camping trip me and a few of the lads, going to tour North West Highlands. Probably first stop will be red squrrel camp site, Glen Coe.

Then have a wee look at Camusdarach camp site. It has Calor midge-eaters and is right by the beach.

We first went to Applecross in the early eighties when the campsite was just the farmers field and sheep were likely to wander into the tent.

It's been upgraded a bit since then. They have wooden "lodges" and static caravans

The drive up Bealach na Ba is amazing, hairpin bends but fantastic views, we saw deer grazing the slopes.

The Applecross Inn now has a reputation for good food, was featured in some tv show I believe.

Beware though theres little to no mobile phone coverage.

My abiding memory is of walking in the gloaming with sea trout jumping in the water

Excellent!!

But it's frightening how we are so used to it. Plug and I were at the Falls of Glomach in 2004 when my knee gave out half way down the last hill, so I sent P off to see the waterfall on his own as I'd seen it/them before and we'd come a long way to miss them by just a few hundred yards.

It was lovely being there toute seule with just the daft deer peering at me over the opposite ridge, but then I thought "what if P falls down the waterfall" (it had been very wet) "and I can't walk back because of my knee"? Answer: "Use the mobile to call for help, of course".

But, of course, there was no signal. [Spooky music here].

Luckily, Plug got back safe and sound and I discovered that my knee only hurts going downhill at a certain angle [
