Free bread - suggestions?

The owners of Kitchener's Deli are looking for suggestions as to what they can do with their excess bread. Graham used to leave his outside the door at the end of the day for anyone who wanted it, but Kath and Chris were hoping that they could maybe identify a local old people's home that could use it, or something of that sort.

If you have any (sensible) suggestions please post them here or contact the deli yourself.

Do Scotmid donate soon-to-be-out-of-date food to the homeless? Maybe K's could add the bread to that?? Read about this charity the other day but cannot for the life of me remember who they are

What does John Williamson do with his past sell by date fishes? If only there was a local religious figure who could combine the left over bread and fishes to feed 1/7th of the porty population each day, except sunday when both shops are closed and the religious figure is liable to be otherwise occupied.

Suggest they contact Carol-Anne Alcorn, programme manager at Fareshare (community free food redistribution network). They have a depot in Leith, so it might be very handy.

Sounds like we should have an "unopened food" bin just like a bottle or cardboard bin. I definitely throw stuff away every now and again that I over-bought and I'm fairly relaxed about sell by dates. The girls at work are ruled by sell by dates throw away things that as SBD+1.
