Advent Calendars

Post by Dadaist » 02 Dec 2006, 08:51

Growing up in my house, these were called "Advert Canadas" after my sister's name for them when she was small.

Do you have one? Does it have chocolates in it?

Tell us what today's picture/choccie was.

I got stitched up a few years ago when some people at work bought an identical choccie calendar to the one we were using (which had a strict system as to whose turn it was next and what to do in the event of weekends and absence), opened every window and ate the chocolates, and put it up in place of the real one.

Strangely, I think they knew what my reaction would be to the utter sacrilege of eating out of turn or eating before the day on the flap. They let me get just aggro enough and then put the original one back when I was out of the room.

The slow, dawning, final realization of stitchuppedness was a pure joy.

I don't have one personally but my two offspring (what do you call them when they are 22 and 19, children isn't quite right) do. My Mum buys them every year for them. A few years ago she didn't buy them as she thought they were too old for them now...........................well, uproar !
She's never made that mistake again

Sorry can't tell you what's in them today, too early to find out.

I bought a Hearts'advent calendar this year - much to the annoyance of my Hibbee workmates, so I had to go back to Sainsbury's and buy a couple of Hibs' ones for them. My workmates took them home to their kids and then got upset yesterday when I opened the first window. I have to admit that I am annoying them by propping it up against my PC so they have to look at the Hearts' crest!!

I don't know what Hearts and Hibs advent calendars have to do about Christmas but I also saw "Pirates of the Caribbean" advent calendars on sale.

That's fantastic. The more gratuitous the better in my opinion.

I've heard that the manufacturers of the Hibs calendars test out new chocolates in their product, decide on the best ones, then sell them to the people who make the Rangers and Celtic calendars.

Last year I bought the kids old style advent calenders like the ones I used to get when I was wee (not yesterday) with old fashioned pictures and lots of glitter...they were not impressed....I had to go and buy some chocolate ones as well

No-one does. It's one made for a cat, with cat treats. We got one last year (at Dobbie's) for a laugh because I knew it would drive Homer mad, but the cat loved the treats so we bought it again this year :P You could get Bess one; they do one for dogs too!

After being accused of ruining last Christmas by not giving Epykitten the Horrible a stocking, I made the effort to buy him an advent calendar this year. It's a Hibs one (with, apparently, the old stand still on the picture - makes you wonder if the chocolate is as old as the photo  ). However, since he doesn't like chocolate he's been opening the doors and leaving the chocolate  . Still, his Dad and I are making sure it doesn't go to waste :D
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
