Father Christmas

Post by gilo » 20 Oct 2006, 19:15

I was just sitting on the toilet and my mind went back to when one of my older brothers told me father christmas doesn't exist. I think he must have been annoyed with me or feeling particularly spiteful that day. I wasn't ready for this and so I went to ask my mum if was true. She didn't have the presence of mind to see my desperate expression and confirmed his non existence. It hurt.

I can remember every detail of this, where I was standing etc. and they say that people remember traumatic experiences in such detail. Can anyone else remember when they were told Santa isn't real. And for those who still believe - sorry.

Definitely is. I saw them out walking her this morning, and she was dressed like that. (Bess, not Sandra.)

I felt a bit sorry for her that she was being forced to walk on two legs. (Bess, not Sandra.)
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, sir?

no, its her twin!

I did think it resembled her a wee bit and couldn't resist having it as my new/halloween avatar :D

I got an email with dogs dressed up and this was the best/cutiest one/reminded me most of Bess.

My nieces sometimes dress her up and wheel her about their garden in a push chair - she enjoys it too :o

We are at the delicate stage where we have had to admit to our eldest there is no Santa and that it was Mum and Dad all the time, but the youngest is still a believer and not gone through the 'Gilo' torment!

I think they have both sussed out the tooth fairy but are happy just to play along and take their parents cash.

Are you saying that they still believe that you are their parents?

Don't. It was that *** Gilo who let the cat out the bag with his opening post. And it seems like only a few weeks ago he was chastising Dada for publishing pics of a dead moose. POL double standards are alive and healthy. :D

I'd factored this in to my calculations and I can't be blamed.

Children have so much invested in believing in father christmas that some old timer posting on an old persons forum ain't going to even dent their belief. I was quite old and still belived. I'd go to school and be told by friends all the time that it's your parents. I'd knowingly tut at their ignorance, it was only a special family member that could break the spell.

My conscience is clear on this one.
