PM from Bob

Post by Porty » 17 Oct 2006, 16:27

Our founder and stalwart has emailed from Crete to inform me that he has managed to abstain from POL for the last 10 days, as promised (to MichellE). He says its raining there but he is having a good time. Thought you would all like to know. :D

It's like being in the church hall for cubs. Fun, but ultimately not the intended purpose of the venue.

Before this descends into smiley hell, I'd like to make my post absolutely clear for those in the future reading it.

So, here are the bits you had to guess from
It's like being in the church hall for cubs. Fun, but ultimately not the intended purpose of the venue.
Being on POL in the general discussion forum when Bob is away is a bit like when I was a cub in Pilrig St church. You got to slide around the floor in your socks and play games, but there was always the feeling that this old hall, and indeed the building, had been built for something else. In this example, Bob is the minister and BB & Marya the (insert Kipling character name of choice).

Worship the symettry of the albino columns.

Bob positively despises the one-word, two-word, three-word story threads. Should we start one for his return?

It has to have its own thread or it hardly irks Bob at all.

When we merged with the boys from Lorne street I left, because one of them decided to slag me off cos I played the violin.

I have so many other cub stories, mainly to do with me not getting badges.

Nope - doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I tried it with Viennese Whirls but that didn't work either.

At this juncture, I'd like to make it clear that whilst I applaud Ali for sowing his seed in the rich comedic furrow of bakery products (nuts, fruitcake etc) my original quote invited the reader to imagine Kipling character names, as in Rudyard and as adopted by the Scout movement, and not the names of cheap tarts.

Cheap tarts? A two word story thread? A mulititude of new users with dodgy sounding names? I leave the place for 2 weeks and it's gone to the dogs.

I confess. I did check in on 3 separate occasions to catch up with my email and have a quick look to see what was happening on the forum.

Won't bore you with details of my holiday. We arrived back in Portobello a couple of hours ago and I headed straight to Scotmid for milk and rolls and then Findlays for a pound of smoked Ayrshire. Bacon rolls and a proper cup of tea - it's good to be home!

Here are the holiday highlights:

Ag Nik. Crete has 300 days of sunshine a year. This is the end of the season and you might reasonably expect a spot of rain or light winds but otherwise warm and sunny weather. T-shirt and shorts. Don't pack your brolly.

Can't offer any more than that - it's impossible to be objective after 2 weeks of monsoon conditions. Spectacular thunder and lightning storms if you like that sort of thing.
