I was chatting to a guy last night who had just returned from a ceremony where his son and 7 other lads aged 16-18 had received their Queens Scout awards at the new Telford College.
All these lads are members of the Portobello Explorers section of the Scouts which meet at Duddingston Primary School.
Having done some research, the Queens Scout award is the highest award that youngsrers can gain in the Scout movement. What makes it more of an acheivement is that Edinburgh area has never presented awards to as many as 8 Queens Scouts at the same time in their history - and all local lads from Portobello. I am told that all of them attend or attended Porty High School
Well done to the guys and to the leaders who put in all the time and effort to achive this.

Explorer's is a fairly new section of Scouts so I would guess these are some of the first Explorers to get the award in Porty. Quite an acheivement. Remember when I was in Venture Scouts (the predecessor to Explorers) and we went for it there was a lot to do and some of it was very difficult.
They also get to go down to Windsor and get the award presented by the Queen.
Amazing that there is this many at once. Think Leith's only had 2 or 3 and they were all individuals. Will have to congratulate their leader next time I see him...
Seeing as very few people on a national level get this badge I'd say let the Porty reporter know this quick - it's an incredible achievement. Will keep an eye out of the Scouting web site and mail a link here if I see a story on it.
