Wagging the Dog

Post by Dadaist » 22 Aug 2006, 13:33

In today's world it seems like so many things are upsides down.

Political parties exist only to get elected, then make up an agenda to implement.

Armies start wars instead of defending countries.

Advertising industries create demand for products first and then flog them to us.

Libel court case results become the new truth, unless they get overturned.

Can you think of any other examples of life gone topsy-turvy?

Yes ... I get up and I'm so tired an hour later that I want to go back to bed!

I'll adapt and amend one of yours, Dada.

Armies act to "defend" their own country by invading another country.

Yes - that sounds better.

It also helps if the invasion has some prefab intelligence used to justify it after the decision has been made to invade, and if the invasion causes the problem the invasion was supposed to stop!

Here's another one :

Management find a really great solution, then spend ages trying to find a problem that fits it.

If this country were to spend over 400 billion dollars per year on their "defence" budget, I'd have thought they'd be itching to get their money's worth.

"Computah says no" mentaility

Staff are turning into "Stepford wives"... because businesses are taking the cheap option of offering minimum training and ticking boxes to make decisions

I recent questioned such a decison and was told by a superviser no less that "common sense does not come into business decisions"
