Juana Molina - Hay Que Ver Si Voy

highly recommended (and not just by me) - she sings in spanish which I don't understand but it doesn't make any difference. sounds v. lush.

"...subtlety, weaving hypnotic layers of bossa nova beats, humming synthesizers and her deep, cooing voice..." (Daily Telegraph)

"...attractive timbres and melodies that the Argentinean singer and multi-instrumentalist has crafted for this marvelous record. this record sounds like it was made with the window open, the breeze blowing, and the sun streaming in." (Dusted Magazine)

"...Molina's delicate ballads recall the ambient music of Euromasters Brian Eno and Robert Fripp or even American modernist John Cage." (Chicago Sun Times)

"...Juana has tapped into a genuinely unique sound where scatting animal calls, acoustic guitar and ambient computerized effects cradle traveling tales and new world fables..." (The Hub Weekly)

The Only Living Boy in New York aaaah aaaah aaaah aaaaaah aaah aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah here I am. S&G

Oddly enough ....

I am just a poor boy and my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest, hmmmm ...

When I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station, running scared
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters, where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know ...

Li la li-i la la la la la li la li-i-i la la la li-i-i la la la la la li la li li lai li li-i ...

Asking only workman's wages, I come lookin for a job, but I get no offers
Just a come-on from the whores on 7th avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there ...

Now the years are rolling by me, they are rocking even me
I am older than I once was, and younger than I'll be, that's not unusual
No it isn't strange, after changes upon changes, we are more or less the same
After changes we are more or less the same ...

Li la li-i la la la la la li la li-i-i la la la li-i-i la la la la la li la li li lai li li-i ...

And Im laying out my winter clothes, and wishing I was gone, going home
Where the New York City winters aren't bleeding me, leading me to go home ...

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him
till he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains
Yes he still remains ... hmmmmm ...

Li la li-i la la la la la li la li-i-i la la la li-i-i la la la la la li la li li lai li li-i ...
Li la li-i la la la la la li la li-i-i la la la li-i-i la la la la la li la li li lai li li-i ...

pure genius ...

Rhiannon- Fleetwood Mac

Back in the 70's I liked the name and the song so much I thought if I ever had a daughter I would call her Rhiannon. I didn't.

A bit of everything!! MusicIP builds bizarre and wonderful playlists out of your MP3 library. I just threw an Adam and The Ants track at it and it came back with a playlist featuring T Rex, Bowie, Joy Division, The Jam... You never need to decide what to listen to again.

Ooops forgot: Link here http://musicip.com/
I don't believe in Beatles.

Alright, so I don't dislike ALL rap!!! :P

Ever heard The Hamlet Rap from the fabulous Danny DeVito movie "Renaissance Man"?? That's pretty cool. And Coolio's "Gangsta Paradise" was one of the the better ones.

Just uploading my new 2Gb Mp3 player. Holds 1000 singles. Mellow!!! :D

I was aware of this video, even had b&w stills from it, but saw it for the first time this evening, 27 years after it was made. Not a great copy but I think you get the general idea:

Ah! You should get together with Ali. He absolutely ADORES Vashti Bunyan. He's even found out where she lives, so that he can stalk her.
