St John's Centenary

Post by Bob Jefferson » 12 Jun 2006, 21:04

St John's in Brighton Place celebrates its centenary this year. It's an impressive A-listed building and a good deal of refurbishment and restoration has taken place over the last few years.

One recent change that seems to be causing some confusion is the addition of an electronic tolling mechanism. Along with the usual Sunday morning call to the faithful, St John's is now observing the Angelus, involving three groups of three chimes with a pause in between each group, followed by 9 consecutive strokes at 6 am, noon, and 6 pm. Some people are confusing this with the hourly chimes from the Police Station and assuming that it has gone bonkers again.

Photos from the flower festival to follow.

Photos look great Bob. Having seen the decorated church for myself, I would like to add my own congratulations to the talented team who put together a spectacular display.

Yes ... congrats to the flower-arrangers!

(Personally I hate flowers. I prefer non-flowering plants! Not keen on churches either. I despise religion.)
