Green spaces in Edinburgh

Post by Bob Jefferson » 13 Apr 2006, 20:44

The preservation and maintenance of green space is clearly very important to all of us, so here is a thread dedicated to this issue.

Perhaps a good starting point would be the recent announcement that the Council is to spend £5.6 million pounds over the next 3 years on public parks and gardens.

Not at all. Please feel free to continue to argue that Portobello is losing green space over on the High School thread. Undoubtedly it is.

This thread is designed to look at the situation Edinburgh-wide. Have we gained or lost green space in recent years? What is the Council's current strategy for public parks? The links provide some of the answers.

Depends which side of the green fence you're on. By 'reclaiming' greenbelt land you are undoubtedly gaining green space. However, by building on green land (regardless of the size) within small communities you are undoubtedly losing green space. It is totally dependent on where the individual thinks the said amount of green space is more valuable. Is it more valuable in terms of aesthetics and accessibility being within a built up area, or is it more valuable in terms of 'it's bigger and it's green' being outwith the boundaries of most communities?
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
